Emily Twort has pulled off a very special trifecta, winning the NRM Open High Points Series, the Petticoat Lane Performance Horses Adult Equitation and Carousel Equestrian Amateur High Points Series.

Unsurprisingly, it was a real best-ever result for the full time engineering geologist from Kumeu. It’s not the first time she’s starred in the show hunter series with full sisters Cameo KSNZ and Camaro KSNZ.

While the series were a goal for Emily, it started to get “more real” as the season progressed. “She is just so consistent,” says Emily of 12-year-old Cameo who has been with her for eight years. “She is such an awesome competitor I just wouldn’t want to be on any other horse. She is a real show off and just loves everyone watching her. It really does give her an extra spark and it shows in her results. I am incredibly proud of her.”

She adores riding into the ring to compete on both of her mares, so much so that she feels she could almost compete with her eyes shut. “Cameo is such an awesome horse, she would do it, and we are just so in synch.”

Their best win of the season came at Rotorua in the open high points when they scored 90% – a feat they repeated numerous times. Cameo had nine wins in the high points over the season. “The open is her favourite height and just her happy spot,” says Emily.

Emily says the wins mean everything to her. “It is just incredible. They both try so hard for me and that’s really paid off with these results.”

She has had 10-year-old Camaro for six years now.

Emily trains herself, videoing her training and then going over what needs to be improved. “I had a very good base with trainers as a teen with the likes of Vanessa Way, Wendi Williamson and Lisa Coupe.”

While she does have dressage in her background, her focus is show hunter. “I do what they are good at,” she says.

She and Cameo KSNZ won the amateur series in 2021-2022, and the adult equitation in 2020-2021.

Emily says none of it would be possible without the incredible support she receives from her mum Rachel Gillon, dad Warren Twort and fiancé Matt Strain who were all ringside at the Trust House Glistening Waters ESNZ Series Final Show.

She also extended a huge thank you to the series sponsors for their ongoing support of show hunter.
