Frequently Asked Questions – Jumping & Show Hunter

If you are jumping in the introductory classes you will need an Introductory Membership. Introductory classes are 90cm and below for horses and 80cm and below for ponies. They must state on the schedule that they are an introductory class.
To jump in Open classes, series classes and title classes a Full Membership is required.

Your horse doesn’t need a registration for Introductory classes.
Show Jumping offer both an annual discipline and a casual registration for Open Classes. You can opt for $90 for compulsory Equine registration and the Show Jumping/Show Hunter start. The annual discipline start is $90 for horses and $60 for ponies. Or you can pay a $20 casual fee per show which allows you to compete up to 1.10m on horses or 1m on ponies.
Your horse must have an ESNZ Equine Registration and an annual discipline start for the Show Jumping and Show Hunter Series Classes.

Most shows use either Equestrian Entries or Main Events and will load their schedules on these entry platforms once entries are open.

You need minimum of 20 points to qualify for Horse of the Year Show (HoY).
You get points by placing in HOYQ (HoY Qualifying) classes over the season. You get 6 points for 1^st place, 4 points for 2^nd place, 3 points for 3^rd place, 2 points for 4^th place and 1 point for 5^th The combination must also achieve a score of 66% or higher to be eligible for the points.
-All points are held with the equine.
Note, HoYQ points are not gained in Equitation classes.

At most shows there is a minimum standard of dress which includes breeches/jodhpurs’, boots, gaiters/chappettes, and a collared shirt (including polos) with sleeves (short or long).
Gloves are optional as per the riders’ preference. Riding Jackets are not always compulsory, if in doubt check the show conditions. Riding jackets can be colours other than traditional colours of black, blue or navy as seen in photo. Jodhpurs’ and breeches can also be colours other than white or cream though at larger shows and in ring 1/main arena, they are expected to be a light colour. In Ring 1 and at larger shows a formal standard of dress is required which includes a riding jacket, a light coloured pair of breeches or jodhpurs, a shirt with a choker, stock or tie.
