Brooke Edgecombe has won plenty of titles and series in her time but today notched a first when she and LT Holst Andrea rode off with the POLi Payments Premier League Series.

To make the victory even sweeter, she had no idea she was even close to snaffling it.

“It’s been a very competitive series all season so it is really nice to top the series,” says the current Olympic Cup title holder. “There are some classy combos at top level which is great to see.”

Brooke isn’t one to chase any series but is always aiming for consistency. “If you are consistent then hopefully that results in a good series result at the end,” she says.

Brooke says the mare is the best horse she has ever had. “I definitely appreciate her. Every time she goes into the ring she tries so hard. This is a great series to win – especially given it is New Zealand’s top national series behind the (international) World Cup one.”

Andrea will now have a little break before possibly gearing up for another trans-Tasman campaign in August or September. “That’ll get her all ready to roll for next season hopefully.”

In the grand final (co-sponsored by Nation Events) today Brooke had to settle for second behind Sophie Scott (Palmerston North) aboard Waitangi Skynet who finished the two rounds on four faults, to Brooke and Andrea’s eight. Maurice Beatson (Dannevirke) and Central Park placed third on eight faults.
