ESNZ officials keep an eye out next week for The Official Word newsletter arriving in your inbox and the following week in your mailbox.

The Official Word is full of essential updates for ESNZ officials on: General Regulation changes; advance notice for dates for a concussion workshop, governance training, discipline and ESNZ board meetings and the AGA; insurance coverage onshore and offshore; a disciplinary system review; and a heads up on increased drug testing of our two-legged athletes in National and FEI competition next season.

ESNZ has been working on the development of a Concussion Policy and the Blue Card process to support our officials in their important role of safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our riders.

Our new database not only enables officials to log a Blue Card concussion notice on a rider’s profile (which can only be removed with medical clearance), but also a Yellow Card disciplinary warning notice issued for inappropriate behaviour and actions. We are urging officials and volunteers to use the verbal and official warning processes at any events by discussing issues with the Ground Juries whenever they feel it is warranted.

Our disciplinary system review recommends the introduction of an intermediate step between the warning issued at an event and the Judicial Committee in order to deal more quickly, consistently and efficiently with most disciplinary issues.  More to come on this once the ESNZ board has received options.

Increased scrutiny of athletes across all sports is not bypassing equestrian. We highlight the National and FEI systems and some of the common pitfalls for athletes.

Read all about it next week and in the meantime have a safe and happy long weekend!
