It’s all go this weekend, with Kiwis eventers in action on both sides of the Atlantic.

Monica Spencer and Artist sit in 10th place on 31.9 penalty points at the end of the CCI5*-L dressage at the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event in the United States.
She was very happy with Artist’s test but would have loved a few more marks. “Max got out there and strutted his stuff,” she said. “Yasmin (British rider Yasmin Ingham) was a hard act to follow. Banzai du Loir is a big powerful warmblood, but I think we rode the best test we could.” The thoroughbred had stayed with her and been very accurate, despite being “lit up” by the atmosphere.

Joe Meyer and Harbin, the only other Kiwis at the event, scored 40.4 for 30th spot in the 35-strong field. Joe felt the horse had tried hard and continued to improve “despite some blips”. The cross country looked tough but had options. “Most of those are quite long except the ditch and angled brushes where the option is doable without wasting huge time,” said Joe.

Tom McEwen (GBR) and JL Dublin lead the pack on 24.8 penalty points, with Yasmin in second on 26 and Elisabeth Halliday (USA) aboard Cooley Nutcracker and Lauren Nicholson (USA) on Vermiculus sharing third place on 30.6.
