A lucky switch in the equestrian calendar on both sides of the Tasman gave Charli Sabine just the opportunity she needed to grab her first-ever show hunter series win.

The 13-year-old from Pukekohe isn’t usually able to attend show hunter series finals due to competing in showing in Australia each year, but not this time. As it turned out, she was able to secure the Fiber Fresh Cat B High Points Series and Cat B Show Hunter Pony of the Year before quickly re-packing and heading to the Grand Nationals and Sydney Royal.

Charli had already won the series by 14 points ahead of Phoebe Rickard on Windermere Silvery Moon before the series final at the Land Rover Horse of the year Show.

She was also first equal in the Big on Writing Pony Equitation Series but the victory went to Emily McMaster on countback.

Mum Kirsten Seamer said everything had worked out nicely for the team this year. “He has won so much so it is nice to finish off with the series and title wins,” she said.

Charli too is pretty chuffed. “It means everything to me,” she said of the wins. “We have had a consistent season together and I am really happy to win the series.”

She extended a huge thanks to the series’ sponsors for their ongoing support.

While they didn’t chase the series, they attended a lot of shows, especially as they needed attendances for RAS qualifications for LRHOY.

Charli is trained by South Islander Jill Ullrich.
