UK-based Kiwi eventers have an early but important start to the new season with the 2024 edition of the Kronenberg Horse Trials in The Netherlands.

ESNZ high performance general manager Jock Paget says the event is a good opportunity to tick off the Olympic qualification requirements.

“Then they can just concentrate on performance and being in the best shape possible,” he said. “This is an important step in the Paris campaign and I hope the conditions are good for the horses.”

The 21-strong compact CCI4*-L features three New Zealand combinations in Tim Price with Coup de Coeur Dudevin and Falco, and Caroline Powell aboard High Time. Tim and Coup de Coeur Dudevin are second to go in the dressage, with Caroline sixth and Tim aboard Falco second to last in the field.

The CCI4*-S has attracted 42 combinations with the dressage spread out over two days. Caroline and Greenacres Special Cavalier first out for the field in Wednesday’s dressage, with the only other Kiwi in the field, Clarke Johnstone and Aces High set to go at ninth. Caroline is bac on the second day with CBI Aldo and Legally Grey, with Clarke Johnstone aboard Sparky Lad and Domasco, and James Avery with Dallas 13 and MBF Connection.

The CCI3*-S features Clarke on Rocket Man with will go in the first half of the 31-strong field.
The competition starts with dressage on Wednesday and wraps with the showjumping of the 3*-L and 4*-L on Sunday.
