Francesca Corich van der bas and Bannockburn ECPH headed home a strong field of 25 horses in the 4Cyte FEI CSI 1* 1.40m class at the Show Jumping Waikato Colliers Classic this afternoon in some not ideal conditions. After 2 days of sun, the skies opened up, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the riders to get out onto the Heather McDonald designed course at Takapoto Estate this afternoon.
Francesca was the first of three clears in the first round of the competition, followed by Jake Lambert aboard Takapoto Alaid des Chez Nous and Samantha van Lierde and the stunning Cadillac NZPH.
Twelve were invited back to the second round but it came down to the final three who had gone clear in the first round. First of the clears out was Jake Lambert who set a cracking time of 60.34 seconds but unfortunately took the last fence. Samantha was next and her plan was to go clear, which they achieved jumping but their caution cost them a time fault leaving them on a total of 1 time penalty with a time of 69.09.
All the pressure was on Fran who was last out and knew exactly what she had to do. Bannockburn ECPH (by Cassiano out of Ngahiwi Emilionaire/Emilion VDL) rose to the challenge and zipped around clear in a time of 63.34 seconds to take the win.
Francesca had a great show, also winning the Chele Clarkin Future Stars Accumulator 1.35-1.45 the day before.
Results: Francesca Corich van der bas and Bannockburn ECPH 1, Samantha van Lierde and Cadillac NZPH 2, Jake Lambert and Takapoto Alaid des Chez Nous 3, Nakeysha Dickey and Resolution 4, Carissa McCall and Picasso MVNZ 5, Oliver Edgecombe and Normandy GHP 6.
Winner of the Style Prize for the FEI CSI 1* was Sophie Fourie and Incendivity HSH.
