EquiBreed and VDL Top Ranking Mare Series

Few mares come close to the consistency of the multi-award winning LT Holst Andrea who once again has won the EquiBreed and VDL Top Ranking mare Series.

In the hands of her owner and rider Brooke Edgecombe, the rising 14-year-old is nearly always in the money. “We’ve had a pretty good season and she is generally unlucky to come away from a show without a prize. She knows her job well now.”

Brooke is excited to be using the EquiBreed prize with an eye to producing the next superstar in her string.

“I believe the mare is 75% of the equation when it comes to breeding. They are so important and sometimes not enough focus is put on the mare. This is a great award and recognition of top jumping mares.”

Andrea already has some lovely progeny on the ground including LT Holst Elizabeth who has been sold offshore, as well as LT Holst Freda and LT Holst Frances who are embryo twins.

“I definitely want to get an embryo out of her and would love to have progeny on the ground to compete on in the future.”

This will be the first time Brooke gets to make the call on how the prize will be used as she only this season became the full owner of Andrea.

“I am super proud of Andrea,” said Brooke. “She is so cool and I won’t get another horse like her again. You only get one per career! Her progeny have shown they are nice and she is definitely worth breeding from.”

She extended a huge thanks to the series sponsors EquiBreed.

“EquiBreed are long time supporters and sponsors of our sport and extremely generous with their prize,” said Brooke. “They are the leading reproductive service in the country and we are very lucky to have them in New Zealand and as a sponsor for showjumping.”
