Article 153 – Minimum Standards for Medical Personnel and Services at ESNZ Events

Summary of changes and how they affect the running of ESNZ Events:

Previously, the GRs stated that ALL ESNZ Events needed at least one person present with a minimum of a current first aid certificate (NZQA unit standard).  There has been a slight upgrade to this requirement for most with the following now serving as a minimum for the running of all ESNZ Events and activities run by ESNZ Area Groups, Clubs and OCs (see Annex K for clarity on this).

For Dressage/Para-Dressage Events, of up to 120 riders, the requirement is now for first aider or first responder with access to a fully equipped first aid kit; Rapid Response Vehicle.

For Dressage/Para-Dressage Events, over 120 riders, the requirement is now Emergency Medical Technician with access to a fully equipped EMT kit plus First aider or first responder with access to a fully equipped first aid kit; Rapid Response Vehicle.

For Endurance Events, of up to 50 riders per day, the requirement is now for first aider or first responder with access to a fully equipped first aid kit; Rapid Response Vehicle.

For Endurance Events, over 50 riders per day, the requirement is now for at least two first aiders or first responders with access to fully equipped first aid kits; Rapid Response Vehicle.

For Eventing – Jumping and Dressage phases, the requirement is now Emergency Medical Technician with access to a fully equipped EMT kit; and additional personnel with at least first aid certificate; and a Response Vehicle

For Eventing – Cross Country phase, the requirement is now Paramedic and ambulance plus additional personnel as per Eventing Jumping and Dressage phases, and Emergency Medical Technician at minimum.

For Jumping/Show Hunter Events, of up to 100 riders, the requirement is now first aider or first responder with access to a fully equipped first aid kit and a Medical Station Often

For Jumping/Show Hunter Events, over 100 riders, the requirement is now Emergency Medical Technician with access to a fully equipped EMT kit plus First aider or first responder with access to a fully equipped first aid kit; Rapid Response Vehicle

Please note that these are the minimum requirements and it is recommended that very large Events go over and above this.

Also, an event cannot start without the necessary medical standards in place.
