ESNZ Eventing is pleased to announce that in 2024, the National Three Day Event will be hosted by Eventing Canterbury. A great deal of work has gone in behind the scenes by all parties to ensure that the event will be a successful season-end competition in May, offering riders a chance to compete at the South Island’s NEC.
Eventing Canterbury Chair Nick Pyke said “It will be a real opportunity to have the top New Zealand-based eventing combinations competing at the National Equestrian Centre, Christchurch and provides an opportunity for both our National Equestrian Centre’s to be used for pinnacle events. We can now further develop the initial plans as to how the event will fit around other North and South Island competitions to provide opportunity for as many competitors as possible to participate”.
ESNZ Eventing Board Chair Margaret Evans said the Board are pleased to see the National Three Day return to the South Island in 2024 after many years of being hosted in the North Island, and believe it offers North Island riders and their horses the chance to experience the travel involved, and the South Island riders the opportunity to welcome and to compete against the North Island riders.
It is proposed that a long format event for the lower grades (105 down) will be held at the NEC Taupo towards the end of the 2024 autumn season to give North Island riders not planning to travel to the South Island an opportunity to experience a three-day competition.
The 2023 National Three Day will be held at the Taupo NEC and will include the Oceania competition, and will return in 2025.
