South Island Based Selector Appointed

Otago’s Barbara Chalmers has taken over the reins as SI based national dressage selector following the recent retirement of Canterbury’s Jan Mitchell.  Dressage NZ acknowledges and thanks Jan for her commitment to the role during her term.
“It was a great honor to be South Island selector and a joy to meet so many wonderful people and view our fabulous talent. It is  exciting to see our overall standard climbing each season” said Jan.

Barbara brings a wide range of sport and administrative experience to the role. She is currently a judge/mentor (A level and Young Horse), competes at Grand Prix level and has an interest in coaching. In her local area, she is Area Judges Officer, Publicity Officer, H&S Officer, and was previously the writers convenor for many years.

Alongside these commitments, Barbara has trained her own horse Rossellini from a 4-year-old through to Grand Prix, and now has young horse to begin another journey.  As well as her comprehensive national experience, judging,  riding/training overseas and attending various international competitions complements her understanding of our sport across the levels.

“I was motivated to apply for this volunteer role by a desire to put back something into a sport I love. I enjoy working with and meeting people and hope to meet with many of you throughout NZ in due course to help further Dressage NZ’s goals, from grass roots to Grand Prix.

Thank you for all the encouragement I received to apply for the role and the subsequent feedback and congratulations when I was announced as the successful applicant at the South Island Festival of Dressage I look forward to being part of your journey and helping in any way I can”.
