Andrew Nicholson is the best of the Kiwis after day one of competition at the Barbury International Horse Trials in Wiltshire.

Nicholson and Yacabo BK are in fourth place on 28.1 penalty points in the CIC3*, with half the field still to complete their dressage. The field is led by Nicola Wilson (GBR) aboard Lizzie Green’s former ride Bulana, on 25.2.

Caroline Powell and On the Brash sit in 14th on 35.5, with Blyth Tait and Leo Distinction scoring 39.5. Still to come in the class is Powell aboard Up Up and Away and Jesse Campbell on Cleveland.

In the CIC2* (section C), Tim Price and Pats Jester are just out of the top 10 with their 30.3 effort. Sam Griffiths (AUS) and Billy Liffy lead the class on 25.4

In the CIC2* (section D), Campbell and Diachello II are in fourth on 25.8, with Nicholson and Andrea BT4 right behind him on 27.1, Dan Jocelyn aboard Fjury a couple back on 30.1 and Tim Price on Up in the Air on 32.6.

Still to come is the Event Rider Masters class, which kicks off on Saturday morning with the dressage and features Nicholson on Swallow Springs, Tim Price aboard Ascona M, Sir Mark Todd on NZB Campino, Jonelle Price on Kindred Spirit II, Tait on Dassett Courage and Virginia Thompson with Star Nouveau.
