Date: 14th – 18th September 2022
Venue: Pratoni, Italy
This years FEI World Championships took on a different look, going back to the format of separate World Championship Events for the various disciplines. The FEI made the decision to the format due to the grow financial burden placed on those countries that had hosted the previous World Equestrian Games format, whereas there were many good established venues that could successfully host smaller events.
Pratoni just out of Rome was the location for the Eventing World Championships, the same location as where the 1998 World Championships were held where NZ won Team and Individual Gold.
Five NZ combinations were selected making up the Team of four and one individual and arrived in Pratoni determined to aim to get NZ back on the podium and after a successful week of competition NZ took out the Team and Individual Bronze medals, the first medals since 2012. The Championships was also an opportunity for NZL to qualify a team spot for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which was also achieved.
