2* Eventer Directs Young Rider Final (4/4/25)  The credibility of competing at 2* level internationally has given Cicely Driver an edge as she directs the final series of Young Riders, launching next Friday 11 April on YouTube and YouTube Kids. From three years with Team Campbell to filming the winner of the Junior Rider Final at Defender Horse of the Year, it’s been an exciting journey. Here’s her story:

A Rose by Any Other Name  (28/2/25)  What do these two horses have in common? Against the odds, South Island breeder Tanya Davie made a decision as a teenager that has made “Rose” a winning name in the New Zealand showjumping world. Adrian White is Our First Olympian (13/6/25)  Just two weeks out from our 75th Anniversary celebrations, we’ve dipped into the archives for this story about Olympian #155, Hawke’s Bay showjumper Adrian White. Adrian’s journey to the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 is nothing short of remarkable. Alaina Tessier Equine Vet is on the Home Straight (25/7/25)  Alaina Tessier had to leave her homeland of New Calendonia to follow her dream to become an equine vet in New Zealand. Now, a New Zealand Equine Research Foundation study grant has led her to the Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur, as she aims for an FEI Level 2 accreditation. Anthea is On Track with her TB (9/5/25)  Anthea Dixon is a remarkable woman who won international status as a Paralympian, after an unforeseen accident robbed her of her mobility twenty years ago. Caitlin Bell  A Teen’s Grassroots Journey (12/1/24)  Often we share stories about our local equestrians achieving great things at the top of their field. Chris Ross makes FEI Level 4 Cross Country Designer (1/8/25)  He’s one of only 14 in the world, along with top international FEI cross country designers that include Great Britain’s Mike Everington Smith and Captain Mark Phillips. Courage to Compete Again (29/11/24)  It takes courage to get back into competitive riding after a lengthy break.  There are two women in our endurance community who have done just that and have recently got back into the saddle with the support of family and friends. Dee Brothers Deliver for Proud Mum (17/4/25)  Jo Dee is fast becoming the Mrs Barrett of the equestrian world. While New Plymouth’s Robyn Barrett can claim three All Black sons, Jo has two high performing riders – Luke who just rode for New Zealand at the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup Final in Switzerland and Michael who has won 15 Group One races and is a fixture in many a top event including the Melbourne Cup.  https://www.nzequestrian.org.nz/…/dee-brothers-deliver…/
 
Fay’s Pony Story Wins Award (24/1/25)  A short story about a showjumping competition has won a national writing award for horse-mad budding young author Fay Stirling. International Eyes Upon a Kiwi Gem from Mount View Sport Horses (13/10/23)  Very rarely does a horse appear for sale on the international sport horse market that nobody has ever seen before. The James’ are Keeping Endurance in the Family (5/2/26)
It’s always inspiring to see families grouping together to follow their love of equestrian sports.  But it’s not often that we come across seven members of one family competing against each other! Kristin School Sneaks in Some Practice Before Interschools (22/8/25)  It’s great when your school’s Sports Manager is a horse rider. Better still if she grazes on a 230 acre farm. Lights, Cameras, and a Look Behind the Action on “Young Riders”  (8/11/24)  Jumping is in the spotlight again as series 5 of “Young Riders” goes into production. Meg Johnston now sits at the National Dressage Table  (15/9/23)  She may only be 18-years-old, but Meg Johnston has already made quite an impact as an ambassador among younger riders throughout the country. Multi-tasking Stewards Embark on FEI Para Certification Journey (26/1/24)  A shortage of FEI para-equestrian stewards – just one in NZ – has led a dedicated twosome to putting their horses on hold and planning a trip to Belgium to chase the qualification. New South Island Series Hits the Spot  (1/11/24)  A four year struggle with a mare that was “unpredictable” has paid off for 17-year-old Amy Brenssell, at a new jumping category introduced into the South Island this season.  For Amy, it was the perfect opportunity to put to the test the hours of training she had undertaken with her cross-bred mare, Kiwi Tune.  And she came out smiling as she rode out of Ring 1 with a clear round, and went on to win the class held in Otago two weeks ago.   https://www.nzequestrian.org.nz/2024/11/new-south-island-category-hits-the-spot

Nimon Trust Enables Ben to Connect with Riding Royalty  (10/11/23)  Ben Weir has three new friends: Swedish Olympic gold medalist Peder Fredricson and fellow Olympian Peter Eriksson, and British Olympic gold medalist Carl Hester. OBE for Professor Natalie Waran (20/6/25) We are delighted that Professor Natalie Waran has recently been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to equine welfare, research and education. One of NZ’s First FEI Vets Qualifies as a Level 4 Official  (2/2/24)  He’s the first New Zealander to qualify as a Level 4 FEI official vet, and now he’s off to Turkey to the FEI National Head Vets Conference. The medical maestro who retired from his day job in 2020 has no plans of slowing down. Para Equestrian Pathway Helps Nicole Shine Again (20/12/24)  In this heart warming story, we hear how Nicole Sweney is back at the top of her game after three years of rehab following a rare neurological condition. Para Pal Shares her “Lamborghini”  (29/9/23)  What do you do when there are two riders and only one horse? Anne Watts and Nicola Essex-Wills faced this challenge just weeks out from a Para-Equestrian FEI competition in Melbourne, with nothing for Nicola to ride. Rania gets the Grand Prix Recipe Right (supplied) (11/8/23)  Rania Todd knew the quality of the horses she was breeding was high; she says there was no way she could have forecast the level of success her ‘babies’ would reach on the global stage. Rare Breeds Can Boogie (22/9/23)  Paso fino, Fjord, Icelandic, Timor, Haflinger and PRE are just some of the horses that make up New Zealand’s fledgling Rare Horse Society, recently started up by enthusiasts Liselle Silver, and Megan Hopkinson. Sarah Milne Doesn’t Let Her Operation Get in the Way (16/2/24)  One-time Eventer, Sarah Milne has resilience to burn. And she’s needed it, as she had to learn to ride again after double-knee surgery last July. Now, after seven months of rehab, she’s back on the show circuit and has just won her first Dressage class. Sophia is Left Speechless by Legacy Gift (14/2/25)  Two surprises this week have taken Sophia Stratford beyond her wildest dreams. Shelley’s Remarkable Story of Grit and Determination (10/10/25)  Shelley Penny’s life took a major turn when she was bumped in the head while riding her eventer, twenty years ago. She dismissed it as “just one of those things” until the headaches began to get worse. Stuart Buntine – Designing Safer Eventing Courses (14/11/25)   Eventing is one of the most popular equestrian disciplines in New Zealand. Trampolining and Eventing – a Juggle that’s Paying Off  (24/11/23)  Campbell Robertson has just returned from the World Champs. But he wasn’t there to compete in equestrian sports. Instead, it was the heady heights of the double-mini trampolining for this 4* Eventing rider from Christchurch. The “multi-tasker” made it to the semi-finals and finished 14th (the second placed Australasian) in a field of 48. Waikato Equestrian Centre Holds Fast to a Long Term Future (29/3/24)  At the Waikato Equestrian Centre, GM Kara Lockhart is plugged into a busy calendar she expects will top her record of 43 events last year. Winter Olympics (24/4/25)  The Winter Olympics is coming to Waipukurau this weekend on Saturday 26 April. We meet one young competitor and her Kaimanawa horse who took out the Dig Deep Challenge at last year’s competition.
