Date: 6th – 14th August 2022
Venue: Herning, Denmark
This years FEI World Championships took on a different look, going back to the format of separate World Championship Events for the various disciplines. The FEI made the decision to the format due to the grow financial burden placed on those countries that had hosted the previous World Equestrian Games format, whereas there were many good established venues that could successfully host smaller events.
Herning, Denmark was the location for the Dressage, Jumping and Para Dressage FEI World Championship held in August 2022. New Zealand was represented in the Dressage discipline, being the first time since 1998 that we were to field a team. It was also the only opportunity NZL had to qualify a team for the 2022 Paris Olympic Games and following a massive fundraising effort a team of three were sent.
While we did not achieve Paris qualification, all three combinations produced great results including Personal bests. Gaylene Lennard and Jax Johnson were eliminated after a post-test mouth swab returned a slight pink colouration. FEI have a zero tolerance on any sort of colouration, meaning immediate elimination. While it was and extremely disappointing outcome, Gaylene did post a very good score of 69.627% being the pairs fourth FEI Grand Prix start.
