ESNZ Affiliate Groups

The Incorporated Societies Act 2022 has come into force in New Zealand to replace the old 1908 Act and modernise the governance, transparency, and accountability rules for approx 24,000 organisations across many sectors, including Sports.  The following resources have been prepared to provide support to ESNZ’s Area Groups in the lead up to 5 April 2026, the deadline to complete all paperwork and register under the new Act.

Now that the revised ESNZ Constitution has been passed at a Special General Assembly, all groups delivering ESNZ approved events must become an ESNZ Affiliate Group.

To qualify as an Affiliate  the group must be a legal entity and must deliver at least some ESNZ approved events.   Please complete the ESNZ Affiliate form, sign, save and send it to [email protected] from button below.

For Incorporated Society groups ESNZ has prepared a constitution template that you may like to use if registering for the first time. You can download it via the button below.

Whilst the template is not compulsory it has been developed to align with the new ESNZ Constitution and to meet all other requirements under the new Act.

We have also provided links to other content available on the Incorporated Societies website that will help you below. Any queries on the incorporation process should be directed to them – details here: Contact Incorporated Societies

Insurance Cover for Affiliate Groups

All Affiliate Groups are required to have their own insurance policy for public liability and any other relevant insurance e.g. asset cover. The previous option to buy into the ESNZ policy for Associated Events is no longer available under the new system.

As an Affiliate Group you have the option to apply for insurance cover under the ESNZ Group Scheme managed by Aon. Please contact Danielle Rose [email protected]. Details of the cover they provide is found via the button below:
