Outside my professional life I have been interested in horses from an early age. When my children became involved with Pony Club and Eventing in 2008 I became heavily involved in equestrian sports, in both a formal governance capacity and informal roles. I have a strong sense of purpose, and ability for getting things done. I am able to communicate in a clear manner. I have good leadership skills and enjoy working collaboratively. I respect and value people from all backgrounds.

Being part of Wellington Organising Committee (OC) has meant I have been interested in how events are run and the people involved. I believe I am in a good position to create and maintain effective relationships with people on other OCs around New Zealand, canvassing their views and representing their interests on the ESNZ Eventing Board.

I trained as an Early Childhood teacher and have spent most of my working life working with families in the community. I am currently delivering a grief, loss and change programme to children.

My husband and I farm out of Dannevirke where I have always had my horses, having ridden from the time I was very small. I evented then rode Dressage post having children until getting into Eventing again with my daughter.

I loved being involved in Eventing so when she finished riding to pursue Vet School, I became a TD.

I am a List 1 National TD, hoping to become an FEI TD shortly (a very Covid interrupted wait!!).

I have been Chair of NZPCA and am currently Board Chair of a local Community organisation. I am Chair of Central and Southern HB Eventing, based at Arran Station.

I have been a member of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for three years and have recently been made the Chair.

Board Member – Appointed

Kirsty is a long-time contributor to the Eventing community in Canterbury and beyond. A Physical Education and Health teacher based in Canterbury, she returned to riding after university through trackwork and retraining off-the-track thoroughbreds for eventing.

With over 17 years of involvement in Eventing Canterbury — including time as Chairperson — and experience as the South Island Riders’ Representative on the national board, Kirsty brings both governance and grassroots insight. She has competed up to 4* level and has helped run events ranging from local training evenings to FEI three-day competitions.

Kirsty is passionate about growing and sustaining the sport, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by the South Island eventing community.

I have previously been a competitor in Eventing (through to 4* Level) and produced a number of horses through the grades. I am now one of the highest qualified Jumping Course Designers in New Zealand – having achieved FEI Level 3 status.

My family are well involved in the racing industry and operate Ainsley Downs Stud, Te Kauwhata and are breeders of a number of Stakes Race winners. I am a licensed racehorse trainer, but this has taken a back step as the course designing has taken over.

My motivation for this role is to help develop the sport and its participants from the Grassroots up, so the discipline keeps growing. I am passionate about helping riders and officials develop their skills, as others have done for me in the past.

While I was competing, I started developing my skills as a Jumping Course Designer, and Eventing gave me valuable mileage and experience as I worked through the FEI Levels (it had me well prepared for when I designed my first FEI Jumping Event through the FEI Eventing competitions that I had officiated in – working with Ground Juries, FEI Rules and requirements, etc).

I look forward to being able to ‘put back’ into the sport that has taken me on a wonderful journey and helped me in so many ways with my progression as an FEI Official.

I grew up in Blenheim, rode as a child going through Pony Club in Blenheim to B Certificate, and continued riding up until about 10 years ago, always a one horse amateur.

I did have a break from riding when I went through Lincoln University (B.Agr Sci) and then did my O.E.

I enjoyed hunting initially then my competitive nature brought me back to eventing, where I rode at Novice & Intermediate national competitions ( 2* & 3*) throughout the South Island..

My horse of the lifetime was Feine Chance, a part thoroughbred mare by a Fan Letter colt (by Secretariat), started by Sally Field-Dodgson and Nicola Maley, who I won the South Island Three Day Event on, and also her daughter Feine Supermod by Zabalu, who I had a lot of success in SI dressage.

I am past chair and committee member of SCNO Eventing Committee, past member and briefly chair of the Eventing Technical Committee. I have been on SCNO Dressage committee and have been Area Judges Officer, and I am on the organising committee of the SI Dressage Championships.

I am a FEI Level 3 Eventing Judge and a List 1 ESNZ Eventing Judge, as well as a List A Dressage New Zealand Judge and mentor.

Outside of judging, I do contract work in adult education, predominantly for Primary ITO, tutoring Agriculture, levels 3, 4 and 5 on the NZQA framework.

I am lucky to have a very supportive wife, Suzanne, who understands and supports my enthusiasm for our sport and my judging.

We have a lifestyle block near Timaru with a few ewes, a few hens and a big garden.
