The largest team of kiwi Endurance riders has just taken part in the 60th Anniversary Tom Quilty gold cup ride at Stirling’s Crossing in Imbil, Queensland. Twelve riders along with their strappers, supporters and many volunteers attended the 24-hour, 100-mile (160-kilometre) ride in the annual national championships event which has attracted hundreds of competitors each year since 1966.
Four of the riders took their own horses to Australia: Arahi Penny and Makahiwi Adelaide were bred in New Zealand and Prince Elagani SPA and Tonki De Boo Novak were bred in Australia. They travelled with IRT ESNZ’s Official Horse Welfare partner.
The Tom Quilty bucklen won by Abi Enstrom riding Beaudelicious te and Nadine Barker riding her horse Razorback Annatole at the 60th Anniversary Tom Quilty gold cup ride at Stirling’s Crossing in Imbil, Queensland.
It was a concussive ride which was reflected in the results with only two NZ riders getting their Quilty Buckle. These were Abi Enstrom riding Beaudelicious te and Nadine Barker riding her horse Razorback Annatole.
For the first time, the Tom Quilty Gold Cup included an Arabian Endurance Show where Makahiwi Adelaide shown by Struan Duncan took second place Pure Bred Arabian Mare in a very large class of Arabian horses. A great team effort:
