POSITION BRIEF: ORGANISING COMMITTEE BOARD MEMBER (x1)
ESNZ Eventing is looking to attract an Organising Committee Board member with experience, networks and skills that will add value to Eventing and the leadership of the sport in New Zealand. The role is open to permanent residents living within New Zealand.
Purpose and context
ESNZ Eventing Board exists within the national body (ESNZ) and is focused on the sport of Eventing in New Zealand with the aim to:
- develop opportunities, programmes, and facilities to enable, encourage, and enhance the participation, enjoyment and performance of people and horses in the sport of Eventing at both national and international levels.
- enhance the safety and welfare of all participants and horses in the sport of Eventing.
The ESNZ Eventing Board consists of a rider’s representative, an organising committee representative, three elected members and two appointed members. There is also one full time Eventing Sports Manager to support the Eventing Board in delivering the sport. The current vacancy has arisen due to the current Organising Committee member completing their term on the Board.
This role would appeal to individuals who is current an active member of an Organising Committee (OC) involved in delivering an ESNZ Eventing Horse Trial or one that delivers both FEI and ESNZ classes. You would be keen to take what you have learnt as a key member of an OC and help share learnings and best practices among OCs nationwide to positively influence and support pathways for competitive, recreational, and high-performance riders wanting a long future in Eventing.

A Board Member will ideally have the following key attributes and abilities:

- An ‘above the line’ player
In addition, The OC Representative has additional responsibilities to ensure Organising Committees are effectively connected to the Board:
- Enable Organising Committees’ perspective to be effectively represented in all Board endeavours
- Act as the primary liaison point for Organising Committees to raise issues, provide feedback, and present ideas to the Board.
- Ensure two-way communication so Organising Committees are well informed about ESNZ Eventing activities, plans, and progress, and be an effective communication channel.
- Identify emerging operational issues affecting event delivery and bring them to the Board for consideration.

Time commitment and term
Eventing board meets monthly with most meetings conducted primarily online, in conjunction with face-to-face meetings in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch and at the Eventing AGM. Other time commitments may include sub-committee membership and meetings and email dialogue between meetings.
Remuneration
The role is unpaid. Expenses, including travel, will be reimbursed.

Election Process
Nominations for the Elected Organising Committee Representative shall be forwarded to all ESNZ Eventing Organising Committees & posted on the ESNZ website.
Voting will be via electronic means and a simple majority vote will determine the Organising Committee Representative. To vote for the Organising Committee Representative Board Member, an Organising Committee must have held, or be scheduled to hold, one Event on the official ESNZ Eventing calendar in the year from 1st August to 1st June.
The role shall commence from the 2026 AGM – 28th June, 2026.
