Dannevirke hosted their annual A&P show, and along with crowd favourites such as the Grand Parade, and Round the Ring, spectators were also treated to some great jumping.
Sofia Williams seems to have the Midas touch at the moment, as everything she touches turns to gold, or at least a nice red ribbon. Not satisfied with just winning the FMG Young Rider, locally supported by Agrisea NZ Seaweed, she went on to win the Property Brokers Grand Prix too. Both times, she was in the saddle of her stunning grey unicorn, Grassendale Enzo, a horse who is making all his riders dreams come true as this marked their fourth Grand Prix win of the season so far.

Whilst we are used to seeing Muzi James galloping around a cross country course, she is also no stranger to the show jumping ring. This weekend, she jumped the only double clear to win The Brave Pants Company Pro Am riding May B It’s Maisie. Tanya Hansen was the only other competitor to make it through to the jump off, and took home second place after picking up four faults on Ngahiwi Specter.
Josh Adamson fronted a competitive jump off in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider that saw five combinations go head to head. Josh was the fastest of two double clears on his lovely Haupouri Jewellery, Nigel Horton was just a touch slower riding Mandalay Cove, and Laura Knight came in third place on Sentosa with four faults.
Isla Bowley won the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider after jumping the sole double clear on Balboa NZPH. Lottie Bull also contested the jump off, but picked up some faults to finish in second place on Castiana. Young Lottie finished her weekend with a bang when she took out the AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix, this time riding TCG Centadel. Four ponies made it through to the jump off, and it was a contest between Lottie Bull and Daniella Jelliman who had two rides each. Daniella finished in second and third place on Korokipo Kid and Tallyho Scoundrel respectively, with Lottie also coming in fourth place on Rascal Flatts OS.
Karen Patrick and Josh Lavelle both jumped a double clear to share the top prize in the East Coast Performance Horses Five Year Old Breeding Series, and it was also a great day for the Double J Stud’s stunning stallion, Double J Typhoon who is the sire of both the winning horses. Karen aboard Double J Williamsburg (Double J Typhoon x Double J Winnie/Bismark, bred by Double J Stud), and Josh riding Home Alone George (Double J Typhoon x Brewery Lane/Zed, bred by Heather McDonald).
The Eastern Bay Show at Te Teko had a great show that was well received by all that attended.
Tara Gower and Matt Taylor went forth to the jump off in the FMG Young Rider, locally supported by C4C Rugs, after both picked up four faults in the first round. Riding Quintress Ula V GNZ, it was Tara that came out on top, finishing just ahead of Matt and Starlight Dalaman.
The NZPH Seven Year Old Breeding Series, locally supported by Robinson Earthmovers, also saw two four faulters battle it out for first place, where Nicholas Grant jumped the only clear to take the win on Grand De Eros (Eros K x Pinawin/Pins, bred by Nicki and Jess Sonne). Hannah Roil and Grassendale Xtreme (Corofino II x Casa Rosa MVNZ/ Pico Bello, bred by Sharleen Workman) finished in second place.
The Brave Pants Company Pro Am, locally supported by Fonterra, was another class where two headed into the jump off. It was Aleisha Bradley who was victorious after jumping double clear on Centia. Cindy Page picked up just the four faults on Crispr Caz Nine for second place.
Cruze Du Plessis picked up a nice win in the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider, locally supported by Williams and Wilshier. Riding Mosaic II, he stopped the timers considerably quicker than Hannah Roil and Grassendale Xtreme who finished in second place.
Kirsten Worker is renowned for being a threat in the jump off, and this time was no different. Eight headed into the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider jump off, locally supported by Williams and Wilshier, with the top six all jumping a second clear round. Kirsten flew around the course on Lilah to finish nearly four seconds ahead of second placed Candice Fox riding Atticus et Audax, and Erica Alderton rounded out the podium on Sundays Jazz.
Candice continued her good show when she took out the East Coast Performance Horses Five Year Old Breeding Series, locally supported by Team Rees Motorcycles, a victory she shared with Kate Wynyard, who also jumped a double clear. Candice was riding MacLaren GHP (Mylord Carthago x Yirrkala Ebony/Escudo I, bred by Olivia Hamood), and Kate aboard Bellfino RHS (Corofino II x Our Secret NZPH/Ramirez, bred by Rocky Hill Sporthorses).
