Please allow at least two weeks for new FEI Horse registrations.  This accounts for courier timeframes and processing.

Horses must be microchipped to be FEI registered.

Rider and Horse both need a 2026 FEI Registration.  The FEI has increased registration fees substantially, while Id Books and Recognition Cards remain unchanged.  Fees for 2026 are:

  • FEI Rider Registration $155, Under 18 is free
  • FEI Horse Registration $155
  • National Id Book (for first time registrations) $50

Follow the process below:

New Registrations

  1. New horse registrations require this form to be completed.  https://www.nzequestrian.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/ESNZ-FEI-Horse-Rider-Registration-Form-2026.pdf
  2. Pay through HorseReg
  3. Email the completed form to [email protected]
  4. ESNZ will then send out a National ID book which must be filled out by a vet, including the horse’s microchip number.
  5. Once completed, courier the National ID Book back to the ESNZ head office who will verify the documentation and upload the files to your horse’s FEI profile.
  6. ESNZ will then send the National ID Book back to you at which point your horse will be fully FEI registered.

An approved National Passport can easily be upgraded to an FEI Passport as a Recognition Card once the horse reaches the level requiring an FEI Passport (e.g. World Cup, CSI1*-W competitions).
