All the action in the FEI World Jumping Challenge moves to Papatoetoe on Friday with the second North Island round of the international competition being held at The Bridgeman Show at Brookby.

While Sofia Williams and Grassendale Enzo, who won the opening round at Gisborne, will not be there, there is plenty of talent in the 27-strong field. Adison Hall (Waimauku) and Waitangi Connection who sit just behind Sofia on the leaderboard have entered at Brookby, as has Tyla Hackett (Waiuku) aboard Global PH Cocofino who is sitting in third place, and Kate Ormond (Clevedon) and Ngahiwi Gruffalo who are in fifth, and most of the rest of the top 10.

New Zealand is running three competitions in the North Island and two in the south. Rounds have already been run at the Poverty Bay A&P Show and Otago Spring Show in October and won by Sofia and Grassendale Enzo and Cara Quinn (Queenstown) on Delphine NZPH respectively.

Following this week’s round, it’s final time.

The South Island final will be held at the Canterbury Xmas Cracker (December 5-7), with the North Island final at the Auckland Christmas Cracker (December 19-21). The best two scores from each combination count towards their final ranking. Both final rounds also include the Youth Olympic Games Qualifier, where riders (born 14 November 2008 – 31 December 2011) can earn the right to be considered for the Games.

The FEI World Jumping Challenge was created in 2001 and run first in Germany before moving to South America, Africa, the Balkans and Central Asia. The concept is based around opening an international competition to those who generally would not have the opportunity to do so.  They are considered a bridge between national and first international competition and held across the disciplines. It is open to athletes from the beginning of calendar year they reach their 14th birthday.

Just 20 riders – the two best placed from the 10 regional zones – will compete at the final which is held aboard borrowed horses.
