It was a big weekend for the small but mighty Brookby crew, who hosted their first Grand Prix and FEI World Jumping Challenge at the Bridgeman Show, making it the biggest show they have run to date.

 

It was one to remember for Francesca Corich van der Bas, as she rode off with the Property Brokers Grand Prix, locally supported by Shelley Bridgeman, win. Aboard Bannockburn ECPH, she posted the only double clear to seal her victory. Emma Gaze completed the course on Kowhai Bug in a quicker time, but four faults saw them take home second place.

Another young lady that had a great weekend was Adison Hall who finished at the top of the leaderboard in the FMG Young Rider, locally supported by Homes by Nest, at just her second start at this level. Riding Waitangi Connection she stopped the clock in 39.57, the fastest time of a very competitive jump off, with eight combinations jumping a clear first round. Coming in hot on her heals was Bailey Benshaw on Amorcito in 39.87, with Maya Hegh riding Corfu rounding out the podium in 41.59.

As she’s done so many times already this season, Michelle Wakeling finished in first place in The Brave Pants Company Pro Am, locally supported by Conmara Estate. She guided the consistent BMW Chaccolilli around the shortened course for the only double clear.

The Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider, locally supported by LC Contractors, and the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider, locally supported by Hawkins Homes, both saw a thrilling jump off. The Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider saw eight head into the jump off, with three combinations finishing on a score of zero. Flying through the flags in 41.77, the victory went to Cruze Du Plessis in the saddle of Mosaic II. Nicole Collier and Cassidina finished in 43.56 for second, and Hannah McConnell riding Charlton Elite were third in 46.96.

 

Tessa Ranger had a convincing win in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider, riding Dakarra WHS, she stopped the clock over three seconds clear of second placed Candice Fox riding Atticus et Audax. Sophie Littlewood on Corpaccio Xtreme completed the podium in a jump off that saw seven jump a double clear.

 

Candice Fox continued her good form as she was also the outright winner of the East Coast Performance Horses Five Year Old Breeding Series, locally supported by Mason Stables. Riding the Australian Warmblood, MacLaren GHP (Mylord Carthago x Yirrkala Ebony/Escudo I, bred by Olivia Hamood), she jumped the sole double clear.

 

Carissa McCall won the New Zealand Warmblood Association Six Year Old Breeding Series, locally supported by Auckland Animal Eye Vet, in the same style. She also jumped the sole double clear on Churro Ego Z, who is also an Australian Warmblood. (Carthago Z x Popsicle Ego Z/Parco, bred by Ego Summersea).

 

Four faults was the best score in the first round of the NZPH Seven Year Old Breeding Series, locally supported by Hyde Farms Agistment, and two headed into the jump off. Both jumped a clear second round, but it was Makenzie Causer who came out on top. Riding Aspen Park Silver Strike GNZ, (Candyman GNZ x Ursula/ Corrado 1, bred by Golden Grove), she finished ahead of Oliver Croucher on Jupiter NZPH (Untouchable 27 x Avatar Blue NZPH/ Mr Blue, bred by NZPH).

 

Ashburton

 

Down in Ashburton, the South Islanders enjoyed a big weekend of competition.

Molly Moffatt won the Property Brokers Grand Prix, riding Lazarus GNZ she finished on a total of four faults. Katie Meredith was not too far behind her, riding Sapphire SSNZ she picked up a total of seven faults for second place.

It was another good weekend for the Wylaars girls, Johanna finished at the top of a competitive FMG Young Rider – locally supported by Hayden Mackenzie Contracting Ltd – jump off on Demietta, and Eva won yet another AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix, locally supported by Evolution Vets, on Larabelle.

Six combinations made it through to the jump off in The Brave Pants Company Pro Am, that saw Tamara Silcock and Edward NZPH stop the timers in the fastest time. Rebecca Wardle riding Dingmac Eccles came in second place, and Lucy Florance on Sea Monster in third. In the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider, Kendra Leeuwen rode Cuba Cuba around for the only double clear, to take the win.

 

The Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider, locally supported by River Gorge Cottages, saw a whopping ten combinations fight for glory in the jump off, with six going double clear. The times were tight, but it was Rebecca Smithey aboard Rangatira Flora that rode away with the winner’s ribbon. They stopped the clock in 53.14, Georgia McClintock and WHF Eclipse were hot on her heals as they flew through the flags in 53.32 for second place. Candace Kingsbury riding Allie Saab rounded out the top three in a time of 54.65.
