The Woodhill Group GP Show was a sunny one and a good weekend of jumping was had, especially for Isabelle Jameson who put the only clear on the board to win the Property Brokers Grand Prix, locally supported by Woodhill Group, riding the lovely grey gelding, Levi Xtreme.

Tara’s Time to Shine

The sun shone down on Gisborne who hosted the 150th Poverty Bay A&P show, and a great time was had by all. The grounds were buzzing with excitement, and people had a multitude of things to entertain them, from the fairground and stalls to the equestrian side with Jumping, Show Hunter and Showing classes that put on a spectacle for the spectators. The evening entertainment of Bull Riding was also a huge hit.

Tara Gower certainly left the show with a big smile on her face, not only did she win the FMG Young Rider on Quintress Ula V GNZ, but she also went on to take out the Property Brokers Grand Prix after going head to head with Logan Massie in a two way jump off.

Riding Riverhill’s Legend, Tara came out first and put her foot down from the start, she finished in a time of 37.61 but was unlucky to dislodge fence number 5 from its cups. Logan opted for a steadier clear on his homebred Adele 13 but again, fence 5 hit the deck and he finished in a slower time of 43.73 to pick up second place.

Tara was thrilled with the efforts of her horse, who was bred by her mum, Sue and she broke in herself when she was just 12 years old.

“I used to bike down to see him in the paddock when he was a foal, I just loved him right from the start. Riverhill’s Legend tries so hard for me, we know each other so well. My plan was to win that Grand Prix. I love coming here, the grounds are great, there is a cool-as committee, and it is a lot of fun.”

Maddison Thompson had a good show, she won The Brave Pants Company Pro Am riding My Alfie, after coming second in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider on her other mount, Nimbus 5000. A class that was won by Kirsten Worker riding Lilah.

Caesar NZPH was guided around the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider nicely by Ling Yun Fan who rode off with the winner’s ribbon. Hannah McConnell came in second on ME KD’s Affair, and Adison Hall rounded out the podium with Waitangi Connection.

Sarah West won the NZPH Seven Year Old Breeding Series on the Vicki Prendergast bred Schecter (Hector van d’Abdijhoeve x Sofee/Powerfee) and Henry Gaddum riding Eye Pinky Promise (Ngahiwi One Eye x Luna/Sorcery), a horse bred by his wife Sofie, was the best in the East Coast Performance Horses Five Year Old Breeding Series with a four fault round. Fraser Tombleson produced the only clear first round in the New Zealand Warmblood Association Six Year Old Breeding Series, riding the Kahu Piripi bred McMillans Rhubarb. (Studley x Tip/ Flags).

Regan Calder and TRS Sniper pulled the only double clear out of the bag to win the AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix.

“That win has been a long time coming. He is tricky, but he’s a real character, and he does save me. He may be small, but he’s got a high IQ and really rates himself. It was an advantage to go last for me. It means everything for me to win this, I am very happy to see all the hard work paying off.”

Aboard Rascal Flatts OS, Lottie Bull also progressed through to the jump off, she had the faster time, but a pesky rail fell which saw them take second place. Lottie also picked up third on her other pony, TCG Centadel.

Equifest

Amongst all the trade stands, displays and masterclasses, Equifest also offered a handful of series points up for grabs. The Brave Pants Company Pro Am was whittled down to two competitors who went head to head in the jump off, and it was a nail biting finish. Both combinations dropped one rail, leaving it all down to the clock. Jess Trow rode Kiwi Sunup around the shortened course in a time of 45.62, but it was Jaime Campbell who flew through the flags on Silver Scotsman in 45.08 to take out the class.

Grace Klava and Lanice van de Heffinck finished their round on the FMG Young Rider with zero jump faults, just adding three time penalties to take the win, just ahead of Pipi Cornish riding Cavalli Vista Coachello who finished on four faults.

The Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider saw six combinations head into the jump off, with five of those jumping another flawless round, the fastest was Tessa Ranger riding Dakarra WHS. In the saddle of Waitangi Connection, Adison Hall jumped the only clear in the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider to take first place.

Eva is the Belle of the Ball

At the Hawkeswood Mining Otago Jumping Spring Show, Eva Wylaars backed up her win from last week by yet again taking out the AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix, in the saddle of Larabelle, they jumped a solid clear to ride off with the red ribbon.

Kimberleigh McCabe won The Brave Pants Company in the same style. Riding Prince of Brooks, they too, jumped the only clear for the win, as did Kendra van Leeuwen and Cuba Cuba in the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider.
