Taupo NEC hosted the Jazz Haulage Rotorua Spring Show that attracted competitors from all over the country and led to some serious competition over the weekend.

Spectators were treated to the first Property Brokers Grand Prix of the season, and it did not disappoint, with three combinations from the starting field of eight producing double clears. Kylee McCambridge was first out in the jump off, and aboard her classy young mare, Waitangi TikTok, made light work of the shortened course. Their time of 38.29 saw them finish in third spot.  The experienced Julie Davey expertly guided the flashy LT Holst Freda around in a quicker time of 34.57 but, their lead was short-lived as it was young gun Tara Gower and her lovely homebred Riverhills Legend that sped through the timers the quickest, in 33.58 to take home the win.

Daniella Jelliman carried on her good form from last week and took out the AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix, this time Korokipo Kid took top honours with a double clear in a smart time of 35.39. She was also third on last week’s winner Tallyho Scoundrel, with a fast four faults in the first round. Sandwiched between Daniella was Regan Calder who also jumped a fast double clear on TRS Sniper, finishing just a smidgen behind in 35.90 for second place.

The FMG Young Rider kickstarted the series classes on day one, and what a thrilling class it was. Fifteen combinations jumped a clear first round to battle it out against the clock in the second, with eleven of these producing yet another clear. Matisse Masterson rode Jay-Z GNZ to perfection, leaving nothing to chance and their time of 35.28 could not be beaten. Stopping the clock just a slither behind in 35.46 was Sofia Williams, in the saddle of Grassendale Enzo for second place. Completing the podium in a time of 39.45 was Matt Taylor and Starlight Dalaman.

The Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider also filled the indoor arena with a fantastic jump off, eleven combinations came into the jump off to fight for the title, with four of these putting another clean slate on the board. Riding Cassidina, Nicole Collier was the fastest by a decent margin to take home maximum points. Balboa NZPH finished as bridesmaid for the second week in a row, with Isla Bowley at the helm this exciting new combination flew through the finish flags in 34.97, just in front of Hannah McConnell riding M.E KDs Affair who finished in 35.92 for third place.

It looks like Carissa McCall has added another superstar to her string in the form of Saxon MVNZ. They zipped around The Brave Pants Company Pro Am jump off in 42.94 to take out the class. Second place went to Cindy Page in the saddle of Crispr Caz Nine, with a time of 43.77, and third to Dolce NZPH in the hands of Caira Manson, with a time of 35.92. Last weeks class winner, Samantha Megchelse had the fastest time of the class, she guided Rata Mill Eclipse around in 41.50, but with one rail dislodged from its cups, it left them in fourth place.

Dynavyte Double J Poacher was double clear and fast to take out the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider. In the hands of Jane Stafford, they stopped the clock in 37.49, with the only other double clear coming from Drew Carson riding Java NZPH in 42.90 for second place. Georgia Milner had the fastest time, aboard her lovely LT Holst Teachers Pet, they stopped the timers at 35.81, but four faults pushed them down to third place.

The six and seven year old breeders’ classes saw just one double clear in each. In the saddle of Karisma HSH, (Indoctro x Daimante HSH (Diarado) – bred by Hokonui Sport Horses), Pieta Milne was the comfortable winner of the NZPH Seven Year Olds, and riding Atticus et Audax, (LC Telepathy x Skyhi Sabine (Komet Von C) – bred by Imogen Neale), Candice Fox was the sole winner of the New Zealand Warmblood Association Six Year Olds.

The East Coast Performance Horses Five Year Olds saw two combinations jump a double clear to share first place. Fittingly, one of those was Jingo ECPH, bred by the series sponsors, East Coast Performance Horses. (Jardonnay VDL x Cincinnati ECPH (Cassiano)), ridden by Luce Williams. The Angela Miller bred Dominick MH (Eurosport Diament B x SPM Roulette MH (River Dance)) produced the second double clear, with Christine Cornege in the saddle.
