Top Kiwi showjumpers Luke Dee and Sharn Wordley have enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic over the weekend.

Stateside, Sharn had an excellent week at the WEC Ocala Summer Series 5 CSI3* International Derby. He and Brin D’or De Haute Melen Z headed home 24 other combinations to win the CSI3* 1.5m Grand Prix qualifier with a double clear in 38.78 seconds. Jad Dana (LBN) was second and third with his mounts Diamant and Leonidas respectively. Both horses were double clear with Diamant crossing the flags in 39.93 seconds and Leonidas coming home in 41.93.

He then went on to place fifth and seventh respectively aboard Brin D’or De Haute Melen Z and Champion League in the $130,000 CSI3* Grand Prix which was won by his wife Lauren Balcomb (AUS) aboard Verdini D’houlveld Z. The top 11 of the 30-strong class came back for the jump-off where seven kept their slates clean. Sharn and Brin stopped the clock at 43.04 seconds with Champion crossing the flags in 45.1. Lauren won in 39.85.

Sharn was also third aboard Champion League in the CSI3* 1.45m speed class. Twenty-seven combinations started, with the win going to Gonzalo Busca (ESP) aboard Cristiano Obolensky in 63.81. Luis Pedro Biraben (ARG) and Baileys Van De Broy Z were second in 66.92, with Sharn home in 66.97. The top nine combinations were double clear.

Luke Dee and Gangster WW started the CSI3* Ommen Show in The Netherlands with a fifth in the CSI3* Big Tour 1.5m speed class – the Grand Prix qualifier. Forty-eight combinations started the class with 12 leaving everything up. The Kiwi combo stopped the clock in 65.49 seconds. The class was won by Ansgar Holtgers Jr (USA) aboard Kantibes in 63.75 with Pim Mulder (NED) with Kentucky Balia NI second in 63.79 and Annelies Vorsselmans (BEL) on C. Kulottie W Z third in 64.69. Luke and Gangster were also clear in the CSI3* Big Tour 1.5m but opted not to jump-off, saving the horse for Sunday’s Grand Prix where four faults in the opener saw him finish 17th.

EVENTING

World no.3 Tim Price led from the get-go at Haras de Jardy in France to take the win in the CCI3*-L aboard The Highlander.

The combination finished on their 27.2 penalty point dressage score in the 32 strong class, with Lucas Brun (FRA) aboard Happy de Brio second on 31.2 and Christopher Six (FRA) third with 31.2on Hot Stuff du Loir. Tayla Mason and E.G. Tiger Chilli were fourth, just a smidgen behind, finishing on her dressage score of 31.3.

In the CCIYH2*-S, Amanda Goldsbury and Cooley Will Do placed fifth in the 48-strong field. The Kiwis were lying second after the dressage with their 28.2 penalty point score, picked up four in the showjumping and finished clean and clear in the cross country for a final tally of 32.2. It was a very tight class with winner Edouard Legendre (FRA) aboard James Bond Manoriere on 30.6, runner-up Thomas Carlile (FRA) on Gucci de Hus on 30.9 and third-placed Robin Godel (SUI) aboard Ilario des Tours on 31.9.
