ESNZ Eventing were incredibly fortunate to have NRM as the naming sponsors for the 2024/2025 ESNZ Eventing Series – this meant that the top 5 finishers in each Series received prize money for the first time in many years. NRM have been long time supporters of Eventing, notoriously sponsoring the CCI3*-L class at the NZ Three Day Eventing Champs (NZ3DE). Their infamous weigh station has been a staple at the NZ3DE when held at Taupo and provides riders an opportunity to have their horses weighed onsite followed by expert equine nutrition advice.
“NRM have been strong supporters of NZ Eventing for over twenty years. With their alliance with Kentucky Equine Research, NRM are committed to providing you research backed solutions for your horse at any stage or level of performance.”
| CELEBRATING THE WINNERS |
Junior Rider: Tessa Bradcock & Ceremony
“It’s been what I can only describe as a dream season for me with both my horses , I set myself a goal at the start of the season to complete one 3* and place top 3 on ceremony in the junior series, our season quickly turned into more winning the 3* at horse of the year was definitely the highlight and left our season on a huge high, It means a lot to win the series on grace who has done so much for me this season and to have my second horse Benicio finish 2nd topped it off.”
Young Rider: Bridie Quigley & Oranoa Greyson
It’s been a big season for Oranoa Greyson and I, ticking off many bucket list goals. We ticked off our first 4* together at the beginning of the season and have had some great results along the way. Highlight of the season was winning the CCI4*-S in Taupo, our second 4* together. It’s really special to win the series on the horse that’s done so much for me. I’ve had Greyson just over four years and he means the absolute world to me – the series win just really solidifies his nickname of Mr Consistent. Huge thank you to NRM for their generous sponsorship of the series, we really appreciate it.
Grassroots: Portia Wright & Valerius:
I’m a Vet Nurse and Equine Technician at Vet Services Hawkes Bay mainly working full time as a technician through VS Equine. I’m lucky to be working with horses everyday including working and riding at events such as Horse of the Year. Valerius is an OTT TB who I have produced through the grades, he wasn’t easy at the start but home wouldn’t be the same without him now. This past season has been one of my best yet with a win the week before HOY at 2* and placings at nearly every event. Winning the series has meant all the hard work throughout the year has come together and shown the consistency in our performances so, thank you Postie. I want to thank my mum, without her I wouldn’t be able to ride and enjoy everything I get to do. The list of things she does is endless so Thank You.
Amateur Rider: Ashra McAvinue & TR Willow
TR Willow is a small ginger mare with a huge heart. I partnered with her as a 5-year-old. She has a lovely trainable temperament, and we did our first 95 Horse Trial in 2020. Willow is a versatile horse – our main discipline is Eventing ( of course! ) but we do a bit of everything together from farm riding to dressage to jumping. She is my horse of a lifetime, and I treasure the partnership I have with her.
Its hard to pick a season highlight – I feel fortunate to participate in this sport and visit the beautiful venues we travel to. The partnership with my horses, time & laughs with friends at shows and the challenge of working through each discipline at a horse trial are all elements I am thankful to experience. I really enjoy the process of learning, training and then competing. To win the series is a lovely affirmation of this process. I am so very grateful to have my special horses and the opportunity to do what we do together.
Pro-Am: Stephanie-Kate Vervoort & Zachariah O’Herr
I am very proud to have won the NRM Pro-Am Eventing Series this season. A huge thank you to NRM for their generous support of the series, and to the many sponsors, officials, organising committees, and volunteers who make it possible for us to compete at events throughout the season – we wouldn’t have a sport without you!
Winning this series is really special as it reflects Zach’s consistency and heart across the season. After winning the Amateur Series last year, it’s a privilege to continue building on that progress as Eventing can be a sport of such highs and lows so it’s cool to celebrate another great season. Zach is a 10 year old NZ thoroughbred who loves eventing, especially the xc, and very proudly also won the TiEs series this season for a second consecutive season also.
Once again, thank you Eventing NZ for allowing us to do what we love and recognising rider’s success through these series!
Super League: Donna Edwards-Smith & DSE Mendoza
DSE Mendoza & his rider Donna Edwards-Smith have a wonderful relationship & have become very reliable in the sport of Eventing at the highest level – this is not an easy feat in a sport with many ups and downs. DSE Mendoza is a true athlete, displaying the superb ground covering gallop from our NZ TB’s as well as excelling in the Jumping phases – particularly the XC where Donna & DSE Mendoza produce a masterclass time and time again.

Dr Margaret Evans congratulates Donna Edwards-Smith on winning the NRM Super League.
