As the season nears its end, there was some fierce competition on this weekend for some of the last series points on offer.
Down in the South Island, Canterbury Showjumping held their jumping championships which proved a good one for Katie Meredith & Vulcan GNZ. Over the two rounds of the Property Brokers Grand Prix – locally supported by Kinloch Farms, they picked up a total of nine faults to give them the win over Tyler McKee & Corrida who finished in second place.
Johanna Wylaars had a fantastic weekend with Amberley House bred AH California Dreaming (Euro Sports Centavos x Lilliana/ Littorio), picking up a win in both the FMG Young Rider – locally supported by Hussey Paint & Panel, and the NZPH & A1 Equine Reproduction 7 Year Old Breeding Series – locally supported by Canterbury Saddlery. Not to be outdone by her sister, Eva Wylaars finished at the top of the table in a competitive jump off in the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider. In the saddle of Centanna II, she stopped the timers faster than her three other competitors who also jumped a double clear. Mitchell Cowan came the closest on My Centastage to finish in second place. From there, Mitchell’s weekend only got better as aboard Springvale Tama, he jumped the only double clear to take the win in the AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix – locally supported by Kiwi Conveyancing Services.
It was a good weekend for the Cowan’s with Emily Cowan & Pure Grey Goose NRS also jumping the only double clear for the win in the Crawford Hill Jewellery South Island Junior Amateur series.
Linda Cotton & Kingsway Khan jumped the only clear in The Brave Pants Company Pro Am – locally supported by Vernon & Vazey Truck Parts, as did Angela Ruddenklau & Red Rafferty in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider – locally supported by PL Performance Horses.
Harry Feast and the Sharleen Workman bred Cassafino Xtreme (Corofino II x Carnival Xtreme/ Cassiano) were the only ones to leave all the rails standing in the East Coast Performance Horses 5 Year Old Breeding Series to take home all of the prize pool.
Up in Auckland, Woodhill Sands hosted the Barfoot and Thompson Grand Prix show, and it was a show to remember for Natalia Lammers, as her four fault round on Puro Chaccola was good enough to take the win in the Property Brokers Grand Prix – locally supported by Shelley Bridgeman.
Four faults was also a good enough score for Matt Taylor & Starlight Dalaman who took out the FMG Young Rider – locally supported by GJ Gardner Homes.
Solo clears came from Vicki Ridley & Mosaic II in The Brave Pants Company Pro Am – locally supported by Fiber Fresh, and Zara Main & Frankton ZQN in the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider – locally supported by Fiber Fresh, that saw them finish on top of the podium.
The Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider – locally supported by GJ Gardner Homes, brought a bit more excitement to the spectators, with three combinations heading in to the jump off. Last to go was Josh Bremner & LT Holst Francis who are no stranger to the winners circle, and they gave it their all to complete the course in 38.58, the fastest time of the class by quite a distance. But, leaving a rail on the ground left them in third place behind their fellow competitors who jumped two flawless rounds. Maria Miller & Carlsberg 5 were the quickest of these in 44.75, with Laura Lush & Jewel HSH completing a steadier round in 48.94.
Next stop is Horse of the Year, see you all in the (hopefully) sunny Hawkes Bay!
