**UPDATED ** First round at 1.45m.
New Zealand showjumpers will be out to set the record straight at the Senior Trans-Tasman Test being hosted in February at the prestigious Takapoto Classic.
ESNZ are calling for expressions of interest from showjumpers who think they fit the bill for the clash over courses designed by the world class Frank Rothenburger (GER). First round will be 1.45m.
Kiwi chef d’equipe Oliver Edgecombe says the teams’ event provides plenty of value for all. “It is excellent for us to do a bit of a comparison as to where we are competition-wise against Australia,” he says. “It gives our riders valuable team experience and puts them in a very different situation.”
To have a designer of the calibre of Frank was huge. “Takapoto is a great place to be holding this and it’s excellent to have the Trans-Tasman Test going again. It is quite some years since there has been one in New Zealand with us on our own horses.”
The Kiwis lost by four faults at Willinga Park Show in Australia in September. “We certainly want to set things straight,” said Oliver.
Each team will comprise four riders and a chef. The test will be held on Thursday (February 20) at 5pm straight after the Gold Tour Qualifier on the grass arena. There’s $5000 up for the winning team, with $2000 for the runners-up.
