Maddy Seivwright and Waitangi Pinterest – Lush to her mates – have finished fifth in the 15-strong CCI4*-L class at the Sydney 3 Day Event at the weekend. The Kiwi combo led through the dressage (26.9 penalty points) and cross country (27.7) phases but two rails and a smidgen of time saw them slip to fifth with a final tally of 36.1.
“I am so pleased with her,” said Maddy, “even though we had a couple down. She did a PB in the dressage for 4* and was exceptional out on the cross country. She tried h er hardest all week and I think the heat caught up with her a bit on Sunday.”
The Kiwi combo slipped coming around the corner to the triple bar. “But she still tried her hardest. She is such a gem and I am so disappointed it didn’t go our way. She deserved it so much.”
It had been a touch week with temps on Friday and Saturday hitting 32 degrees and topping out at 34 on Sunday during the showjumping.
Sam Jeffree aboard Santoro who were second coming into the showjumping, took the win on 31.2 with Sam Woods on SS Eight Count second on 31.5 and Jessica Rae aboard Fifth Avenue third on 32.3.
Aus-based Kiwi Andy Daines aboard Hat Trick were eighth, having moved steadily up the leaderboard through the phases with Charlotte Penny on Festival being eliminated during the cross country.
Charlotte bounced back in the CCI3*-L, finishing fourth aboard Carousal on a score of 32.9. The 18-strong class was won by Christine Bates aboard Bloomfield Findon on 29.3. Kiwi Rory Hamilton and Magic Mike Tae were 10th.
Sydney is Australia’s longest running 3DE and held at Horsley Park in new South Wales.
