Kia ora. Many of us engage in the world of equestrian in diverse ways—riders, horses, officials, volunteers, and support crews all play a vital role in our community. While competition is central to our activities, it is the broader focus on development and performance of everyone in our community that ensures the ongoing success and growth of our sport.
Development and performance are essential in equestrian sport. Success is not just about the rider and horse on the competition stage; it’s about fostering continual learning, curiosity, and growth. In governance, ongoing development and performance are equally important. Just as riders and their horses strive to excel in their disciplines, those in governance and management roles work passionately to enhance their skills, ensuring they are prepared to make the best decisions for the sport.
To support this commitment, we recently hosted two valuable online sessions. The first explored the future of equestrian sport, while the second focused on governance, roles, and responsibilities—both really well attended and critical to advancing our vision.
Glenn Forster
It is with great pleasure that we recently welcomed Glenn Forster (pictured) to the ESNZ Board. Glenn’s appointment adds to the already high calibre of directors on the board, who bring expertise in governance, law, finance, and commerce. Not only does Glenn bring vast business and financial experience, he also brings an understanding of the uniqueness of equestrian sport through his connections to our community.
Looking Ahead
This year, I have been deeply inspired by our Olympians and Paralympian. Their dedication, resilience, and pursuit of excellence on the global stage remind us of what is possible and motivate us all. As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, let us embrace these qualities and strive to push the boundaries of what we can achieve. Together, we can build a stronger, more welcoming, supportive, and successful equestrian community.
On behalf of the ESNZ Board, I would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year. May it be filled with joy, reflection, and, of course, fun with your horses.
Ka kite ano, Lynda Clark, ESNZ Board Chair.
