The Ashburton Area hosted the South Island Championships at their premier show where there were some great battles for the championship titles. The second Harrison Lane Premier League of the season was contested around the Kevin Hansen designed course, with  Tyler McKee and Corrida coming out on top ahead of Lucinda Askin and Flying Dutchman DHU.

Molly Moffatt and Lazarus GNZ’s four fault opening round was good enough to take the win in the Property Brokers Horse Grand Prix – locally supported by Rainer Irrigation.

Molly Smith will be stoked to have Vapour Trail NZPH back on the truck after he missed the last few shows of the last season. And boy did he come back with a bang, taking out the AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix – locally supported by Evolution Vets – just picking up four faults in a two pony jump off. Clears were also scarce in the FMG Young Rider  locally supported by Dennis Bird, with four faults being the best effort in the first round, seeing four combinations head into the jump off. Three went on to jump a clear round, the fastest being Emma Gillies aboard Lafayet Ego Z.

Johanna Wylaars may have been the only one to come forward in the NZPH & A1 Equine Reproduction 7 Year Old Breeding Series – locally supported by It’s a Stitch Up, but a solid clear round on the Amberley House bred AH California Dreaming (Euro Sport Centavos x Lilliana/Littorio) gave them a well deserved win.

The Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider provided some entertainment for the crowds.  Four came into the jump off with the hope of riding away with the title. Three went on to jump another clear round and they all finished within the same second! In the end, it was Katie Wilson and Windermere Centorini that provided the quickest time in 37.29.The Main-Events Tertiary Challenge brought a similar jump off with three of the four combinations jumping a double clear. Molly Moffatt was the fastest on Squirrel Xtreme who stopped the timers in 28.18, just a fraction quicker than Hanna Lowe and Double J Jac O Malley in 28.24.

Sophie Townsend aboard Haupouri Heidi NZPH were the quickest in a seven horse jump off in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider – locally supported by ANZCO Foods, as were Ashley Konig and L’heure du Vin in The Brave Pants Company Pro Am – locally supported by Property Brokers.

Harry Feast and Harriet Gardner shared the win in the East Coast Performance Horses 5 Year Old Breeding Series – locally supported by Agri Media Communications. Harry was aboard the Sharleen Workman bred Cassafino Xtreme (Corofino II x Carnival Xtreme/ Cassiano), and Harriet in the saddle of the S&G Cox bred Bounty GNZ (Candyman GNZ x Cassina K/Cassini I).

The Ashburton group had a great weekend of jumping and were especially thankful to their local sponsors and all the people from outside their area who helped their small committee to run the show, whom they couldn’t have done it without!

Foxton hosted the Orizen Tyre’s Wellington-Horowhenua Championships which saw clear rounds aplenty, providing some cracking competition over the weekend.  Warren Ives was designing in Ring One.

The Property Brokers Horse Grand Prix – locally supported by Versatile Homes, saw five combinations head into the jump off where a further three went on to keep a clean pair of heels. The fastest of those was Luke Dee and his lovely import, Gangster WW.

“I’m very happy with Gangster who Fiona (Hall) and I own together. He has really matured over the past twelve months. Today he was exceptional, especially under the pressure of a competitive jump off. Well done to all the other competitors and thank you to the show organisers for a well-run show”.

Another fast and furious jump off was brought to the spectators in the AMS Saddlery Pony Grand Prix – locally supported by Nayton Mitchell Racing. The podium hosted some familiar names with Sofia Williams filling the lower spots. Buzzie Bees Max picked up four faults in the six pony jump off for third place and Sitarski was double clear in 36.68 for second. Emily Oliver prevented Sofia her quinella by stopping the timers in 35.24 and all clear on Doctor Jones for the win.

All of the other series classes jump offs followed in a similar suit, Tara Gower and Riverhills Bayliner were the fastest in the FMG Young Rider – locally supported by Karori Vets – with all five combinations in the jump off putting down a double clear.  Kayleigh Kent and Double J Sponge Bob Square Pants picked up their third Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider win in a row, this time locally supported by Vets on Riverbank. They completed the five horse jump off in 36.83, narrowly beating Jill Watson on OhMyHolly in 36.87!

Sofia WIlliams continued her good form in the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider – locally supported by Star Studded. Aboard Off The Cuff, she was the quickest of eight double clears in 35.65. Once again, the times couldn’t have been tighter as Tara Gower and Double J Image landed in second place with their time of 35.84.  In The Brave Pants Company Pro-Am – locally supported by Joy Gardening – the win went to Anna Stephen and Can’t Tell GC who went through the flags the quickest out of the seven combinations.

Kimberley Carrington on the homebred Double J Saga (Euro Sport Centavos x Double J Barmaid/ Double J Repicharge) jumped the only double clear for the win in the NZPH & A1 Equine Reproduction 7 Year Old Breeding Series – supported by Orizen Tyres, she was also successful in the East Coast Performance Horses 5 Year Old Breeding Series – supported by Foundation Equestrian on another homebred, Double J Joker (Double J Typhoon x Ratamill Ashcott/Stannic).  Claire Wilson also had a good day in this class, jumping the only two other double clears on her homebred McMillans Pippin (Double J Typhoon x The Big Apple/ Corlando) and McMillans Rhubarb (Tane x Tip/Flags, bred by Kahu Piripi).

Vania Mason continued her good form in the NZ Warmblood Association 6 Year Old Breeding Series, picking up her third win on the trot with the Laura McGregor bred Pure Silhouette (Chacco Silver MS x Pure Pink/ Euro Sport Centavos). Mandy Illston and Glenara C-Star (Big Star x Glenara KG Cinderella/ Conquistador) were the only other combination to keep all the rails up and share the top spot.

It was a beautiful weekend of excellent jumping at the Groom & Gallop Grand Prix Show, hosted by Woodhill Sands. They were lucky to have South Island course designer, Emma Barker in Ring One.  Laura Inkster nabbed another Property Brokers Grand Prix title aboard Rodrigo MVNZ, their second in a row. This time, the class was locally supported by Groom & Gallop and they jumped the only double clear out of the two combinations that contested the jump off. Laura had a great show, as she also took out the NZ Warmblood Association 6 Year Old Breeding Series – locally supported by Shelley Bridgeman, by jumping the sole double clear on Phantom HPNZ (Chaccon Blue x Phanton Hologram/ Hattrick VDL), who is owned by Mike & Carissa McCall and bred by the Phantom Stud.

“I’m really enjoying the ride on Phantom HPNZ, his future is looking exciting. Rodrigo MVNZ was awesome jumping another double clear again to take out the win. We have enjoyed being out on the grass at Woodhill Sands, and they are putting on really awesome shows for us. Huge thanks to everyone involved up there for all their efforts, also a big thanks to all the people around me for all their support”.

Deanna Horsburgh on Kan Kan NZPH topped the table in The Brave Pants Company Pro Am – locally supported by Veterinary Associates Equine, being the fastest of three double clears.
