Tim Price and his 5* debutant Jarillo have placed ninth at Les 5 Etoiles de Pau in France this morning.

It was one of the toughest CCI5*-L events of the season and the last for the Northern Hemisphere where 54 of the original 73 starting combinations saw the competition right through, mostly due to a hugely challenging cross country in soggy and boggy conditions.

This morning’s showjumping produced 20 clear and inside time rounds, including one from world no.3 Tim and Jarillo who finished on 49.6 penalty points. Tayla Mason and Centennial picked up both jump and time for a final tally of 65 and 26th place. Caroline Powell and High Time were the only other Kiwis still in the field and they added four jump penalties to end on 69.3 in 31st.

Caroline opted to retire CBI Aldo during the cross country, as did Ginny Thomasen aboard Capitaine de Hus Z, Clarke Johnstone with Menlo Park and James Avery on MBF Connection. Samantha Lissington withdrew Lord Seekonig before the cross country which had nine obstacles removed after torrential rain turned the track into a mud bath.

It was a Brit logjam at the top of the leaderboard, with the day belonging to Caroline Harris (GBR) aboard D Day who took the lead in the cross country and held on to the end to finish in the front on 40.3. Rosalind Canter (GBR) aboard Izilot DHI was second on 40.6 and Tom McEwen (GBR) on Brookfield Quality in third on 43.
