It’s second by a snip for world no.3 Tim Price and his Olympic mount Falco in the CCI5*-L at Maryland in the United States.
Tim and Falco were fourth after the dressage with a 27.4 penalty point effort, moved to third after a hugely challenging cross country, going clear but adding 7.2 time and then were all clear this morning in the showjumping to finish on 34.6.
Tim was rapt with the horse and says there is plenty more to come from him. “He jumped super today,” said Tim. “I am really happy with the way he came through the whole thing. It probably would have been nice if the showjumping was more influential but second place at a 5* is not too dusty and the horse is healthy. I’m looking forward to a fun 2025 with him and beyond.”
But it was Oliver Townend (GBR) and Ballaghmor Class who won on 31.3. They were second after the dressage, added 4.8 time in the cross country and nothing in the showjumping. David Doel (GBR) and Galileo Nieuwmoed were third on 38.5. Just eight combinations of the 23 starters came through the event, thanks to a very influential Ian Stark-designed cross country. Joe Meyer and Harbin were one of seven combinations to retire during the cross country.
In the CCI3*-L, Hayley Frielick and Sportsfield Lumiere finished in sixth place on 34 penalty points. They were one of just four combinations to finish on their dressage score.
The class was won by Sharon White (USA) aboard Jaguars Duende on 29.6 with Sara Schulman (USA) aboard Cooley Chromatic second on 30.6 and Kimberly Severson (USA) with Cooley Corraghy Diamond third on 33.5.
Joe Meyer took a tumble from Ballygriffin Crossfield Cara in the showjumping. Both horse and rider are fine but it looks as though Joe has a broken wrist.
