It’s been a busy weekend in showjumping and eventing across the globe. Paris Olympian Tim Price guided the Kiwis to fourth place in the CCIO4*-NC-L at Boekelo, in The Netherlands thanks to a fourth place individual finish with Global Quest.
The world no.3 was 17th after the dressage in the 97-strong class with a 29.8 penalty point effort, adding .8 time in the cross country and finishing on 30.6 with a perfect showjumping round. His Nations Cup teammate Tayla Mason and Joopiter scored 38 in their dressage, adding just 2.8 time in the cross country and four in the showjumping for a final tally of 44.8 in 24th spot. Jonelle Price and Full Monty de Lacense bagged 38.3 for their dressage, also added just time in the cross country and picked up both time and jump faults in the showjumping for 57.9.
Hollie Swain and Ballycoskerry Regal Diamond rounded out the team but were eliminated early in the cross country as were individual competitors Bundy Philpott and Henton First Lady.
The class was won by Julia Krajewski (GER) on Nickel (28.8) who came from behind to snatch victory in the final test from Laura Collett (GBR) aboard Dacapo (29.3) whose costly rail in the showjumping saw her finish in second. Hallie Coon (USA) and Cute Girl were third (30.4). Just 17 combinations were clear and inside time in the showjumping.
Ireland took the win in the Nations Cup, finishing on 12.6 with the United States second on 116.1, Germany third on 131.9, and once again, just a smidgen back were the Kiwis on 133.3.
Clarke Johnstone has had a busy and very productive weekend at the Strzegom October Festival in Poland, winning the CCI4*-S aboard Domasco and placing second with Rocket Man behind current and triple Olympic champ Michael Jung (GER) aboard Jim Knopf P in a rather compact CCI4*-L field.
In the CCI4*-S he worked his way up from 12th in the dressage, to second after a faultless cross country, and finished off to take the win adding nothing to his 38.6 score. Ben Hobday (GBR) and Shadow Man were second on 39.2 and Nicolai Adlinger (GER) with Timmo third on 39.6. Clarke was also seventh with Sparky Lad in the 25-strong class.
Across the Atlantic, Monica Spencer had a win with Marvel in the CCI3*-YH-S at the Morven Park International and Fall Horse Trials in the United States.
In showjumping, Annabel Francis and Nebraska Van ‘T Vianahof were fourth in the final of the gold 1.45m jump-off at the Autumn MET in Olivia, Spain. Thirty-eight started the class with the Kiwi combo picking up four faults in the eight-strong jump-off in their 47.87 second round. The class was won by Constant van Paesschen (BEL) aboard Zahara. The top three were all double clear with Constant crossing the flags in 46.78 seconds.
