With the dressage all done, riders at the Luhmuhlen Horse Trials in Germany now turn their attentions to the Mike Etherington-Smith (GBR) designed cross country and the general consensus is that there’s plenty to do out there.

Samantha Lissington is the best of the Kiwis in the CCI5*-L field in and says she is hoping the rain stays away. “There are plenty of accuracy questions and lots of places for a cheeky 20. I am looking forward to tackling it,” says Samantha. She and Lord Seekonig sit in 18th in the 42-strong field on 34.7 penalty points. Muzi Pottinger and Good Timing are in 31st on 37.5, with Tim Price and Viscount Viktor on 38.4.

“The 5* cross country is long and demanding,” says Tim. “It is a nice course with big obvious questions but they come throughout so plenty to do there.” It is a Brit-fest at the top of the leaderboard with Rosalind Canter (GBR) aboard Izilot DHI leading on 24.9, Tom McEwen (GBR) and Brookfield Quality in second on 28.3, and Laura Collett (GBR) with Hester in third on 30.6.

Tim Price and Coup de Coeur Dudevin are in eighth place in the CCI4*-S on 28.1, with Clarke Johnstone and Menlo Park 15th equal on 30.8, Jonelle Price with Hiarado 25th on 32.4, Tim and Falco right behind them on 32.5, James Avery aboard MBF Connection 29th on 32.9 and Clarke with Domasco 39th on 34.9 in the very competitive 66-strong field.

Michael Jung (GER) and fischerChipmunk FRH lead on 22.9 with Laura Collett (GBR) aboard London 52 in second on 24.9 and Anna Lena Schaaf (GER) on Fairytale 39 in third on 26.

Tim is looking forward to the cross country test and says there is plenty to do. “The 4* is a nice track with all sorts of combinations and places to mind your work but it is a good track. Hopefully it will be a good day tomorrow.”
