New Zealand is just a snip of a point behind Australia in the FEI Nations Cup competition on the open day of dressage at the Millstreet International Horse Trials. Australia sit on 99.4 penalty points, with New Zealand on 99.7 in the CCIO4*-NC-S at the popular Irish event.

For the Kiwis, Jonelle Price and McClaren scored 32.9 to sit in fourth place, with Tim Price aboard Chio 20 in fifth on 33.3 and Clarke Johnstone on Rocket Man in sixth on 33.5. The drop score was Dan Jocelyn aboard Blackthorn Cruise on 33.9 in seventh. The United States are in third spot on 103.2 with Great Britain in fourth on 105 and Ireland rounding out the class on 107.4.

Individually, Aussie Andrew Barnett aboard Go Tosca leads on 29 with Stephen Heal (GBR) aboard Quidam de Lux in second on 30.7 and Alyssa Phillips (USA) with Oscar in third on 30.8. Thirty-nine of the field have completed their dressage with the remaining 19 to go overnight.

The CCI4*-L is being led by Caroline Pamukcu (USA) aboard She’s the One on 28.2, with Andrew Heffernan (NED) on Gideon in second with a score of 31.7 and Rosie Nesbitt (GBR) aboard EG Michealangelo in third on 31.9. Jonelle Price and Chilli’s Midnight Star is the best of the Kiwis in seventh place on 34.4 with Caroline Powell right behind her aboard High Time in eighth on 34.6.. Tayla Mason and Joopiter are in 11th in the 19-strong field on 35.3. Tomorrow the field with tackle the Mike Etherington-Smith (GBR) designed cross country.

Eighteen of the 25 combinations in the CCI3*-L have completed their dressage test, with Jonelle Price the only Kiwi in the field, sitting in sixth spot on 31.3 with Full Monty de Lacense.

In the CCI3*-S Panda Christie (GBR) and Sir Villmer lead the 52-strong field on 31.3 with Sian Coleman (IRL) aboard Kilroe Frolic in second on 31.5 and Danielle McCormack on Hildare Hermitage and Suzanne Hagan (IRL) on Loughview Commander tied in third on 31.7.

Tayla Mason and Sunhill Landalier is the only New Zealand combination to have gone so far and sits in eighth spot on 33.3. Caroline Powell with Tik Tok, Clarke Johnstone aboard Aces High, Dan Jocelyn on Greannanstown Atomic, and Sam Lissington with Delarado will all complete their dressage overnight.

Sam Lissington holds second and third respectively aboard Nadal and Never Know MB in the CCIYH2*-S at the end of the dressage and will showjumping overnight.
