Jesse Campbell is over the moon to be sitting in fourth spot at the end of the CCI5* dressage at Les Etoiles de Pau in France.

He and his Tokyo Olympic mount Diachello scored 26.9 penalty points, to sit behind a trio of Brits in Tom McEwen aboard JL Dublin on 23.1, Rosalind Canter with Izilot GHI on 24.4, and Pippa Funnell aboard MCS Maverick on 26.4.

“It’s a really , really cool result,” said a very happy Jesse. “Danny was awesome. He has been on really good form all week and enjoyed being here. He was just awesome in the ring. He stayed really rideable and with me. I am so pleased with him.” Jesse said the horse had tried so hard and he was rapt the judges had seen “the quality that he has”.

The Pierre Michelet (FRA) designed cross country was a good 5* track and Jesse was looking forward to it. “You are really going to need to be concentrating all the way. There are lots of strong questions out there. I think one of the most influential will be 28a, b, c so we are really going to have to be on our game. Hopefully the weather holds and we get some good ground.

Jesse is first out of the 55-strong field on his other mount Cooley Lafitte, who scored 39.5 in the dressage. “Hopefully we can give everyone some confidence that the track will ride well.”

Tim Price and Viscount Viktor are the next best of the Kiwis in sixth place on 28, followed by Samantha Lissington and Ricker Ridge Sooty GNZ on 28.8. Jonelle Price and Hiarado scored 30.4 for 13th spot, with Muzi Pottinger and Just Kidding just behind them in 15th on 31.1. Jonelle and McClaren are on 32.4 with Tim and Happy Boy on 32.9, James Avery aboard MBF Connection scoring 33.8, and Muzi aboard Good Timing on 35.4.

The Kiwis come fast and furious in the cross country tonight with Jesse and Cooley Lafitte first out at 11.30am (France time)  and finally Muzi with Good Timing the second-to-last to go in the field at 4.10pm. See all times below.
