Maurice Beatson notched Grand Prix win no. 208 when he and Central Park won the POLi Payments Premier League Series class at the Egmont A&P Show at the weekend.

Spring in New Zealand delivered absolutely everything it could across the country, with plenty of wind and rain challenging events, and even leading to the cancellation of the Egmont Horse Coaches Spectacular on Sunday.

Six of the eight starters in the Premier League class came back to be tested again over the Heather MacDonald-designed course at the Egmont Showgrounds. Logan Massie (Dannevirke) aboard Bravado Ego Z and Sophie Scott (Palmerston North) with Waitangi Skynet were both sitting on zero faults, with Maurice carrying a single time penalty.

“I was fourth to go in the jump-off and just had to go clear,” said Maurice, who bagged his fourth Grand Prix win of the season with the victory. “Given the rain they have had, they were very lucky. The ground was just holding a bit and we started later in the day to let it dry out a bit.”

Maurice and the 11-year-old gelding finished on a single time fault, crossing the flags in the second round in 47.89 seconds, with Logan taking a rail in his 48.55-second round, and Sophie flying around in 42 second but paid for her speed with two rails.

“Our goal is to just keep trying and winning Grand Prix,” said Maurice, an Olympian and World Champs representative. “It is turning into a great season so far.”

The Country TV Pony Grand Prix was won by the ever-consistent Penny Borthwick (Masterton) and Rednalhgih Cowan with Samantha-Lee Wakeling (Wellsford) and BMS Sharpshooter second, and Annie Moffett (Napier) aboard Korokipo Kid third.

Makenzie Causer and Copabella Camouflage

Makenzie Causer (Christchurch) continued her winning form, with victory aboard Copabella Camouflage in the EvoEvents Horse Grand Prix Series class (in conjunction with Catalyst Performance Agronomy) at the very wet Ashburton Area ESNZ Jumping and Show Hunter Show, with Molly Moffatt (Christchurch) and Freestyle Twyst & Shout taking the win in the Country TV Pony Grand Prix Series class (in conjunction with Ray Mayne Hose and Fittings).

Makenzie also won the Matthews Hanoverians Seven-Year-Old Series (in conjunction with Gary McCormick Transport) with Lord Axel GNZ, and placed second with Copabella Camouflage behind Pieta Milne (Nelson) on Ngahiwi Warrior in the FMG Young Rider Series (in conjunction with Greg Jopson Property Brokers Ashburton).

Tamara Silcock (Nelson) and FF Lisandro won the Rainer Irrigation FEI CSI1* class.

It was a small offering of series classes at the Grand Prix Show Jumping Show at Woodhill Sands where organisers breathed a sigh of relief when they dodged the worst of the weather despite 100mls of rain on Friday night.

Zara Main (Auckland) and Blue Crush won the Country TV Pony Grand Prix Series class (in conjunction with Fiber Fresh), with Georgia Lawrie (Auckland) and Cartello GNZ winning the Harrison Lane Pro-Am Rider Series (in conjunction with Veterinary Associates Equine), Emily Ramsden (Auckland) aboard L’Orame taking the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider Series (in conjunction with Fiber Fresh), and Jeremy Clark (Te Kauwhata) on Triple Star Destiny’s Accolade victorious in the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider Series (in conjunction with GJ Gardner Homes.

Gina Moss designed the courses in ring one, with Edward Bullock in ring two and Christine Bullock in ring three.
