Masterton teen Penny Borthwick is proving unstoppable early in the season in the Country TV Pony Grand Prix Series classes.
Last season she was one and two in the same series and her searing form already has all eyes on her. At the Hawke’s Bay A&P Show, she and her 13-year-old grey mare Foxdens Merlot were the only clear in the opening round of the series class to take the win. Rednalhgih Cowan was the faster of the two four-faulters for second with Annie Moffett (Napier) and Korokipo Kid third in the seven strong class.
The show was also the opening round of the POLi Payments FEI World Cup (NZ League) Series with Philip Steiner (Tauranga) and Cassina Dior heading home a very competitive field to notch his first win at that level.
Larina Dolman (Gisborne) and Kiwi Lansing continued their domination of the Harrison Lane Pro-Am Rider Series with another win there.
Takapau’s Carrington sisters had a good show. Kimberley won both the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider and Matthews Hanoverians Seven-Year-Old with Double J Barmaid and Double J Typhoon respectively, with Sam second in the FMG Young Rider class on Double J Hurricane and first equal in the UltraMox Six-Year-Old class with Double J Odin.
