Jonelle Price and her plucky mare Classic Moet have placed 11th at a very challenging 2022 Badminton Horse Trials in the UK. The world no.5 ranked rider and her 19-year-old former Badminton winner had two rails in the showjumping this morning, to finish on 39.4 penalty points.

Laura Collett (GBR) and London 52 finished the way they started – at the top of the leaderboard, on a record-breaking score for Badminton of 21.4, Rosalind Canter (GBR) with Lordships Graffalo was second on 26, and the only combination in the field to finish on their dressage score, with Oliver Townend (GBR) third with a 29.7 penalty point score aboard Andrew Nicholson’s former ride Swallow Springs.

Jonelle was full of praise for the mare. “She is the sort of horse who can rub a few fences and sometimes they come down and sometimes they stay up,” she said. “You will never have that silence when she is going around. But she has come out today and feels as good as ever.”

Tim Price and his veteran Ringwood Sky Boy also had two down and time for their 47.1 penalty point tally for 20th place.

“I just wanted him to come out and really try, and he did that,” said Tim. “He has done a lot for me, filled a gap when I haven’t had other horses at this level, he has given me a win at this level and top five at Burghley three times . . . he has been a very important horse in my career so I am very happy with him today and just proud to have him at the end of a big competition feeling so well.”

Amanda Pottinger and Just Kidding added to their total with both jump and time penalties for a final score of 61.9 and 35th place. Lauren Innes and Global Fision M were all clear and added just 1.2 time for their 64.2 penalty point finish in 37th spot. The newly-minted Kiwi has continued their march up the leaderboard, having been 80th after the dressage, then 47th after the cross country.

ESNZ HP manager Jock Paget said Lauren and her horse had done brilliantly. “Laura (Collett) really deserves the win – it was an amazing round today.”

In the showjumping this morning, 13 of the 52 starters went clear, but time proved the challenge with only four of those combinations inside the time allowed.
It was the first time in 20 years the Brits had claimed one and two at the top of the leaderboard.
