Kate Proctor aboard Trevellyn Blue Bell
Kate Procter thrives on the challenge of always getting her riding just right when under the watchful eyes of show hunter judges.
Well, it seems the 12-year-old has that well covered, riding off with both the Bay of Plenty and Waikato Show Hunter Groups 12 & Under Equitation Series and the Fiber Fresh Cat B High Points Series with Trevellyn Blue Bell.
“It is so exciting,” said the youngster from Palmerston North. “This is the first series I have ever won!”
Kate adores her pony, 14-year-old Trevellyn Blue Bell – or Abby to her mates. “When we got her she was really tense but I have been riding her and got her to where she is now. This has been my best season ever. There’s been a lot of hard work done but it has paid off.”
She didn’t really think she had a chance of winning even one of the series. “I just came here (to the series final show) to give it my best and have fun,” said Kate.
Abby loves show hunter as much as her rider. “She just says ‘look at me’ when she goes into the ring . . . she really is beautiful.”
Kate won both the 12 & under and Cat B finals, giving her the wins. The two are trained by Laura van Velthooven.
“This really is the best way to finish the season,” said Kate.
