ESNZ Eventing is seeking expressions of interest from combinations wishing to be considered for the New Zealand Senior and Young Rider Oceania teams. The 2022 Senior and Young Rider Oceania Teams Championship will be run as part of the Melbourne International Three Day Event at Werribee 11-13 June 2022.

Due to the financial impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on the Spring 2021 Eventing Season and the ongoing uncertainties around events and participation in the Autumn season, the Board is unable to commit any funding at this time and therefore riders targeting selection need to be prepared for the teams to be self-funded. However, coaching and support staff costs will be covered by Eventing High Performance which will ensure skilled leadership and coaching support is available throughout the selection process and to the final teams.

The Board continues to monitor the situation and is looking at a number of initiatives which they hope will enable some possible financial support to the team riders.

The Oceania competition will be comprised of three Senior teams (two for Australia, the host nation, and one for New Zealand) and two Young Rider teams (one each for Australia and New Zealand). The Teams event will be run concurrently with the Melbourne International Three Day Event on separate consecutive days in the CCI3*-L format for Young Riders and CCI4*-L format for Seniors.

The teams will comprise of four (4) horse and rider combinations, with the best three (3) scores counting for the final team classification. The combinations will also compete as individuals.

Expressions of interest are required by 7 March 2022 and are to be submitted on the application form.

The Eventing Selectors will be taking into account a wide range of factors, including the competition performance record of the rider and the horse as a combination from 1 November 2019 with particular emphasis being placed on recent performances at FEI events.

A long-list for these teams may be named prior to final selection. Dates for these will be communicated in due course. Long-listed combinations may be required to attend prescribed competitions and/or camps as part of their final preparation or for selection purposes.

Please forward your completed application in electronic format to the Sport Manager, Eliza Johns, [email protected] by 7 March 2022.

Riders are asked to read to the Selection Criteria before making an application.
