Further to the December 2021 notification of the intention for ESNZ Eventing to participate in the 2022 Oceania teams competition in Melbourne in June, the ESNZ Eventing Board has decided that due to the financial impact of the Covid 19 pandemic on the Spring 2021 Eventing Season and the ongoing uncertainties around events and participation in the Autumn season, the Board is unable to commit any funding at this time and therefore riders targeting selection need to be prepared for the teams to be self-funded. However, coaching and support staff costs will be covered by Eventing High Performance which will ensure skilled leadership and coaching support is available throughout the selection process and to the final teams.
This decision was made with considerable regret recognising the impact for hopeful representatives. The Board will monitor the situation, including the uncertainties around border and quarantine requirements, and in the mean-time is looking at a number of initiatives which they hope will enable some possible financial support to the team riders.
Details regarding the selection criteria and process, as well as the application form for expressions of interest, cost estimations and deadlines will be published as soon as possible.
In communicating this decision early the Board hopes the eventing community will rally to support the teams in their fund-raising efforts.
