It was double clears for the top three in the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider Series class at the Otago Showjumping Championships, but in the end it was the speed and skill of Mya Stratford and Las Perla who won the day.

Eleven started the class with four coming back for the jump-off. Mya (Queenstown) and La Perla flew around in 36.87 seconds, with Angus Price (Winton) and the very well performed Veroana in second in a time of 40.34 and Amy Brenssell aboard KWL Midship third in 42.68 seconds.

The Harrison Lane Pro Am Rider Series class was also hotly-contested, with 10 starters and a head-to-head jump-off between Graciey Donnithorne (Swannanoa) aboard Cavallo Marrone and Katie Meredith (Ohoka) on Vulcan GNZ. A four-fault round secured the win for Graciey.

Jessica Hore (Millers Flat) and Tallyho Scoundrel were the winners of the Country TV Pony Grand Prix with Nicole White (Invercargill) and LC Samson taking the top points in the EvoEvents Horse Grand Prix.

Show director Anne Beattie was over the moon with a “very successful” show. “Despite a hot Saturday and a broken pump resulting in lots of carting of water, it was great,” she said, paying particular tribute to Adrian Meredith who happily moved the watering pods at 2.30am. “We are very lucky with the fantastic volunteers who help us – it is much appreciated.”

The lovely weather brought plenty of spectators who were treated to a great weekend of showjumping. Event secretary Rebecca Drummond said it was great to finally welcome the public to a show, which included a guest appearance by the mounted police – a treat for all.

The show attracted 272 horses over the two days. Eryn Duffy designed the courses in ring one, Tony Hutton in ring two, Emma Barker and Kelly Heckler in ring three and Marilyn Vincent the show hunter ring.
