Hannah Bodle’s time in Ireland proved the difference when she headed into the ring for the UltraMox Six-Year-Old Young Horse Jumping Championship Final (sponsored by Dunstan Horsefeeds) jump-off aboard Haupouri Galileo NZPH.

While offshore producing and selling young horses, she was told to ‘always keep the cool’. It proved just the ticket at the champs. Hannah and Haupouri Galileo NZPH could have won the title in the final round on the third day, but a rail at the last put paid to that and forced a four-fault jump-off. There, she was again the last to go. Ahead of her Jesse Linton, who was hunting down his third crown in as many classes, had two rails aboard Chelsea CSNZ, and Georgie Dormer (Christchurch) with Google NZPH finished on four.

In challenging conditions, Hannah held her nerve for the win. “G is pretty cool. I have had him since he was a green five-year-old and have really enjoyed producing him so far. I am looking forward to what he does in the future,” she said.

It is the first title the 24-year-old has won at the National Young Horse Champs. “He is a cool horse with a really good attitude. He can be a little emotional but that is what keeps him careful in the ring I think.”

The horse loves to learn and is easy to train. “I can’t thank Warwick, Juliet and Birdy (Hansen) enough for the ride,” said Hannah. “I backed G today to do well. He has been jumping well the whole show. Today’s conditions weren’t the best but he did well. At the end of the day, with such trying conditions you want to keep him happy and have a careful round. I am really happy.”

Hannah rides pre-trainers and breakers in the morning, working her team of five jumpers in the afternoon but looks forward to when she can focus full time on her competitive team.
