A new surface made for perfect jumping at the Southland Labour Weekend Show in Gore which for many of the 162 combinations was the opener of the season.

New secretary Rebecca Drummond says the all-weather arena had been ideal given the warm weather on Saturday followed by light showers on Sunday afternoon. She extended a huge thank you to the committee whose extra efforts had enabled a successful show in trying times.

A double clear from Jessica Hore and her star Tallyho Scoundrel secured the win in the Country TV Pony Grand Prix, with Angus Price (Winton) and Fun House second over the Barry Manson-designed course. David Hutton (Canterbury) and Rolux took out the Dunstan Horsefeeds Amateur Rider Series class, and Mya Stratford (Queenstown) aboard La Pearla heading home the Mainland Coachwork Junior Rider Series.

Emma Barker designed the courses in ring two with Janet Shaw tasked with ring three.
