The first of the new-look ESNZ high performance jumping squads have been announced with Tokyo Olympian Daniel Meech and Cinca 3 the only remaining combination on the top squad.
ESNZ high performance general manager Jock Paget earlier announced the changes that saw a far more targeted approach to squads and championships.
“It is great to be able to put these squads out following a month of work on just how we can make the most of the programme thanks to the Plaw family,” said Jock. “Now we are able to offer great support to the riders as they transition through the pathway which is being led by jumping high performance manager Oliver Edgecombe. This is a great opportunity for these talented riders and we are really excited to see them progress. Congratulations to them all.”
Combinations on the High Performance Squad must be committed to and capable of contributing to team targets at championship events.
The High Performance Futures Squad is made up of combinations committed and capable of performing at Nations Cups, Olympic Games and World Championships. The eight combinations named on the squad are Ireland-based teen Annabel Francis with Carado GHP, current Olympic Cup holder Brooke Edgecombe and LT Holst Andrea, Tokyo Olympian Bruce Goodin and Backatorps Danny V, Nations Cup rep Richard Gardner and Callisto, two-time New Zealand World Cup league winner Tegan Fitzsimon with Windermere Cappuccino, Tokyo Olympian Tom Tarver and Fiber Fresh Popeye, World Champs representative Samantha McIntosh with Alaid De Chez Nous and Tokyo Olympian Uma O’Neill aboard Clockwise of Greenhill.
The High Performance Potential Squad comprises Emelia Forsyth, Kimberley Bird, Logan Massie, Melody Matheson and Sally Steiner.
The Talent Development Squad comprises of Daniel Blundell, Hannah Bodle, Jeremy Whale, Laura Inkster, Nicole White, Olivia Robertson, Samantha Carrington, Sophie Scott
The Talent ID Squad will be populated following the upcoming selection camps.
Jock extended a big thank you to the jumping board, performance committee and selectors whose “massive team effort” had enabled the new pathway to get off the ground.
