A clean and clear showjumping round has seen Jesse Campbell and Gambesie move up to sixth place in the CCI4*-S at the Bicton International Horse Trials in the United Kingdom with just the cross country to go.

Jesse remains on his 24.1 penalty point dressage score to stay well in touch with new leaders Tom McEwen (GBR) aboard Toledo de Kerser and Rosalind Carter (GBR) with Allstar B who both sit on 23. Dressage leader Laura Collett (GBR) and London 52 had a rail to slip to ninth spot.

Jesse was absolutely “delighted”. “Gambesie showjumped really well today to produce an awesome clear round. He is a horse I think a lot of and it is exciting he is finally at this level as he has had a few niggles over the last couple of years,” said Jesse. “But he is here and performing really well. I can wait to get stuck into that cross country tomorrow – it is pretty tough but it should be good.”

Andrew Nicholson and Swallow Springs were clear but picked up 0.4 time to finish the two tests on 31.2 with Amanda Pottinger and Just Kidding taking a rail to sit on 32.1, as did Caroline Powell and Greenacres Special Cavalier for their 34.1 penalty point score. Bruce Haskell and Amiro Sky added four to sit on 36.9 with Samantha Lissington and Ricker Ridge Rui now on 44.6. Samantha was eliminated on Ricker Ridge Sooty GNZ. Ninety-nine combinations remain in the field.

The Helen West-designed cross country in the CCI4*-L saw just 44 of the original 89 combinations still on the leaderboard at the end of a very challenging day. There were 20 retirements including Andrew with Monbeg Exclusive and Dan Jocelyn on Lissyegan Rory, and 13 eliminations over the hugely-influential track.

Hollie Swain and Solo XII added 9.2 time penalties to scoot up the leaderboard and sit in 23rd place on 51.4. Tayla Mason and Centennial added 12.8 time to finish the day on 71.3 with Dan and Duke of Champions on 80.5.

Nicola Wilson and JL Dublin lead the field on their dressage score of 28.7, with Piggy March and Vanir Kamira right on their heels on 29.9. Just six combinations were clear and inside time with 22 others clear jumping but adding time penalties.
